Pixie Cut hair colour help

I've got an appointment with my hairdresser next week and would really like to return to a pixie cut. I've also booked in to have highlights done but am not sure if that is the right way to go with a pixie cut or if I should go for full colour instead. I'm going somewhat grey, mostly underneath and was hoping that the highlights would help blend in the greys, but now not sure it would look ok with a short haircut. My reservation about a full head of colour is the roots mostly.
For reference, I'm a medium brown naturally (plus the greys). I'll try and add a screenshot of the cut I'm going for too. I'm turning 39 soon and I'm just not ready to age yet. Grin
Please help me make a decision....

Just realised that I can't post a pic yet as I'm new to the site. Gin
I'll try and link a picture, but it's basically similar to Frankie Sandford (Bridge)...www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/627407791807593459/

Hi, my hair is short like that and I have full head colour that's as close as possible to my natural colour, also medium brown. I only have about 25% grey and have a demi permanent colour done every 6-7 weeks. I think the slight fade of the colour helps soften the regrowth.

I kept asking for highlights but the hair is apparently too short for the foil to be any use and nearly all the colour would be trimmed out.

Thanks for that. I was thinking about the trimming out issue too. Feels a bit pointless to go through the process of putting highlights in if they are going to grow out/be trimmed off pretty quickly. My hair grows fast too. Last time I had a pixie I had to have it trimmed every 4-6 weeks at the latest. Semi-permanent colour is a good shout too with regards to the re-growth, although does it cover the greys adequately? I have a similar amount to you I think. Tried home dyes but they pretty much just wash out after a few washes and the greys come back through pretty quickly.

The colour is Wella Colour Touch Plus, I think, and it's a pretty long lasting colour - it gradually lightens up but even after lockdown the greys didn't come through too much.

I have a very short pixie cut and about 30% grey I buy the casting creme gloss semi permanent dye and go for a slightly lighter shade than my fairly dark brown, it is inexpensive and lasts for several weeks before starting to fade (so no roots!) and the lighter colour is better against my skin. The grey just looks like highlights where they are still noticeable.

I had highlights with a pixie and the back looked very salt and pepper IYSWIM. The longer areas (front and top) looked great but the shorter areas looked very 90s boyband.
So you could have highlights on top/ front but would need solid colour elsewhere.

Thank you all. Think I'll change my appointment to a semi permanent full colour. I hadn't even thought about the salt and pepper look. Shock
