Please recommend a foundation to cover my horrid skin!

Going into the office this week for first time (changed job in pandemic). Everyone always looks so well turned out on zoom. Problem is I'm carrying an extra lockdown stone and my skin has really gone down hill!

My forehead is a horrid combination of spotty, scars from spots and frown lines! I need a foundation that hides some of this!

I'm naturally pale too.

Anything you guys love that I can order online?

Thanks!

Double Wear or Revlon Colourstay- both excellent.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/07/2021 08:11

Is the dr treating the spots?. That’s the first step, stopping them come back and prevent more scarring.

WaterBottle123 · 18/07/2021 08:19

@Fluffycloudland77

Sadly I think spots are just hormones, my mum also suffered with adult spots!

Double wear Estée Lauder

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/07/2021 08:32

Of course they are, that’s why it starts at puberty and not before. I had adult acne badly but the dr treated it.

@cookiesandcreamm

Double wear Estée Lauder
It's the best coverage foundation but can feel really heavy and cakey on combination skin and won't help at all with breakouts.

OP I started to get hormonal spots just after Dd2 was born, it was dire I've not had a spot since I was 18!!

The first thing that I switched up was cleansing. Aztec clay masks (with apple cider vinegar) worked wonders for drying up the little buggers and really help with oil control (try youtube for a demo, amazon sells the Aztec powder).

The second was a good moisturiser, for me Clinique dramatically different.

Then after plenty of foundation tries, one just wasn't going to work! Start with a good concealer- Clinique, Estee Lauder for me. Dot on the red areas lightly then blend smooth. Also under eye, and blend.

The foundation is something you'll have to get a good colour match for, after spending £££s on every different brand, my go to is still max factor perfectly balanced! I use lightly and its really just to blend the colour.

The next is what works for coverage and oil control, two different Pressed powders, Clinique stay matte & Clinique double wear.

Start with the stay matte on you Tzone, over eye area (great for setting and also holding eyeshadow in place), the the doublewear powder, which is also a foundation in itself but gives great coverage. Dab and lightly blend.

It seems like alot but really isn't, sparingly and blend! (I also use smashbox light diffusing powder as a contour and brightener, with a really good brush!)

Hope some (any) of that helps! I still get some cystic spots around my chin/forehead but zap with the surgical spot treatment (Clinique, again!) Which smells like surgical spirits but dries them up immediately. Still use the clay mask once a week.

I’ve bought so many expensive foundations but the best I’ve ever found (except for Chanel), for my skin, is Phoera. The coverage is amazing and it’s very cheap

FreshFaceTime · 18/07/2021 09:17

@WaterBottle123 You could try a salicylic acid cleanser and niacinamide serum for the spots. There's a skincare thread on here (with a snail emoji in the title). If you post on there asking for product recommendations I'm sure you'll get some tried and tested suggestions. They are really good!

JohnStonesMissus · 18/07/2021 09:21

I second Revlon foundation, I use Revlon Candid photo ready foundation, but colorstay is also excellent.

WaterBottle123 · 18/07/2021 10:41

Thanks everyone these are all good tips

Sorry to jump on this thread, but what's the base moisturiser to use under Double Wear?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/07/2021 11:21

Sorry to jump on this thread, but what's the base moisturiser to use under Double Wear?

I use either Aloe / Vit E cream from the body shop or Eucerin if my skin is a bit wintery.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/07/2021 11:21

Nivea soft is fantastic too ,I just can't use that as I react to it.

WingBingo · 18/07/2021 11:26

Your Dr can help with spots.

You do not need to suffer, there are loads to try for the price of a prescription.

Frazzledd · 18/07/2021 16:39

If you want to use something from the pharmacy, Acnecide is a peroxide cream that works (although watch your bedding!)

TableNiner · 18/07/2021 17:51

Thickish long wear foundations can create a catch 22 for spots.

Things I'd recommend:
Prescription skincare, Dermatica or Skin and Me
Signing up to Dr Sam Bunting's newsletter, she has a great factsheet on dealing with acne/difficult skin. She is not a fan of longwear foundation or powders. She is a dermatologist who shares her expertise for free.
Seeing a doctor. Why should we put up with spots just because they are 'hormonal', there are various treatments you could try

WhereAreWeNow · 18/07/2021 18:48

I'd go for Estee Lauder Double Wear Light (not as cakey as normal version) and a good concealer to deal with any spots/scars. I'd also recommend La Roche Posay Effaclar range to sort the spots out. Some people find mineral foundation (eg. Bare Minerals) really good for spot prone skin. It suited me when I was younger but not so much now I'm older/wrinklier.

WorldsBestBoss · 18/07/2021 18:54

I really like Laura Geller Baked, Balance and Brighten foundation. It's a mineral powder foundation which you apply with a brush but it has amazing coverage and does not budge even on hot days. No need for powder and it's very glowy.
WRT the spots, if they're only on your forehead, could they be linked to a hair product? If not, I would recommend a good foaming cleanser, toner and then something like The Ordinary Azelaic Acid under your moisturiser. Cleared my spots up almost overnight.
