Anyone used Vinted?

Have given loads of stuff to charity shops but have a few things still with labels I thought I might sell.

Anyone think it's worth it?

I've sold lots successfully but the last thing I bought from Vinted was via Hermes and it never arrived which has really put me off it.

I didn't realise you can select Royal Mail as postage option.

Gilbot · 27/07/2021 17:45

I’ve set up an account & listed a few items

How long does it take for items to sell? So far I’ve listed a Reiss dress for £12, hush skirt for £8. Good condition

xsquared · 29/07/2021 20:57

Watching with interest. I don't want to ebay anymore so this seems like a good alternative.

Gilbot · 29/07/2021 20:59

I’ve not sold anything yet although various people have liked my items….

I really think it depends on your item and whether someone likes it enough to buy it, and at the cost you're asking.

I joined after reading this post, and sold 9 items in my 2 days making a little over £100. That being said, all of my 'in demand' items have been sold and the other 20 or so haven't shifted yet. They're still getting favourited but no sales yet. I'm wondering if I should list them again, essentially bumping them rather than having to pay to bump them.

Does anyone know if you're allowed to do that?

Please help, I want to pre-buy envelopes for posting dresses but don’t know which size to buy. I selected medium for postage but have no idea what the measurements would be!

cherrypiepie · 02/08/2021 18:37

What kind of dresses?

Most of my sales (dresses jeans t shirts etc ) fit in 10"x 14" mailing bags from eBay (50 for £3.50). Around a4 size.

Can usually get about 3 items in there.

Also got some a3 ones from home bargains.

shallIswim · 02/08/2021 18:51

I've just sold my first two items. Well, I've despatched them. I understand payment is sent on receipt so am crossing my fingers!!

stclair · 02/08/2021 22:27

Thanks cherrypie. They are sort of shift-style so should fit in the size you mentioned.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 02/08/2021 22:40

@stclair depends if you’re posting with Hermes or Royal Mail. I’ve turned RM off on my settings as the sizes were too different. Hermes are less strict so I’ve chosen small parcel for all my items (unless it’s a big bundle), the lower postage attracts more buyers as they’ve also got the buyers fee they have to pay.

Mumski45 · 02/08/2021 22:59

I e not used it to sell but have bought a few items on Vinted in the last week or 2 and I think it's fab. Got 2 genuine bargains delivered already and hopefully another on the way.
For those of you selling do you find the prices are similar to eBay. For the items I've bought they seem more reasonable but it's only a very small sample.

rustyspoon45 · 02/08/2021 23:06

I've found that things sell quickly but I'm actually struggling with the delivery options. I thought it would be like eBay and you could just Chuck it in at the post office but all these delivery options make it much more complicated.

For example today I sold something, realised that the buyer had selected the Hermes option and now I'll have to drive to the nearest drop off point which is about 5 miles away. All for a top I sold for £3!!!

And I also don't have a printer so I'm hoping there is the option to print a label for Hermes otherwise I'm screwed. Has anyone done this before?

Mumski45 · 03/08/2021 06:10

@rustyspoon45 I've not yet sold on Vinted but I have read that you can switch off any postal options you don't want to give your buyers in Vinted settings.

Gilbot · 03/08/2021 07:29

@rustyspoon45 in your settings you can turn off certain delivery options. I pass a Hermes drop off point most days so that works well, but I’ve turned off Royal Mail as getting to a Post Office is a hassle.

Gilbot · 03/08/2021 07:31

@Mumski45 I’ve listed over 20 items so far, sold 3 but rest are not shifting. I’m selling higher end high street brands like Reiss, Whistles etc. The 3 things I’ve sold were priced very very low.

Less hassle than eBay and no seller fees though.

stclair · 06/08/2021 22:01

@AlfieandAnnieRose Thanks for the tips!

xsquared · 16/08/2021 16:04

I've just sold my first item in Vinted and have posted it off. I've left a message to say that the item has been posted but is there anywhere to mark the item has been despatched? TIA.

beardeddragon174 · 16/08/2021 16:19

Yes. It is brilliant. A bit slower than ebay's Buy It Now option but WAY less faff and no fees!!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/08/2021 17:30

They have added 'Inpost' as a carrier, and just tacked it onto everyone's account which is incredibly annoying as the nearest one to me is 33 miles away. I've had to cancel a couple of orders and the buyers have not decided to repurchase with Royal Mail :(.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 16/08/2021 17:36

What are you using to package your items. I’ve got a few items that are in great condition to sell.

Do you use mailing bags or something else?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/08/2021 17:37

I use mailing bags that I buy in bulk off Ebay, I get A4 ones and A3 for larger items.

Ammacca · 16/08/2021 18:06

If somebody favourites their item either offer them a price that you’d be prepared to take or ask them to make an offer - that’s normally why people are hitting the favourite button to see if a deal can be done HTH - I’ve bought loads much easier than e bay :-)

xsquared · 16/08/2021 19:32

@LivingDeadGirlUK you can turn off that option when you go to your settings, followed by postage.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/08/2021 21:38
@LivingDeadGirlUK you can turn off that option when you go to your settings, followed by postage.
Yes, the annoyance is that they just added it to my list of accepted postage services, instead of asking me to opt in. So I had 2 people purchase with that option which I had to refund before I knew about it and changed the settings.

housemove123 · 16/08/2021 21:52

@LivingDeadGirlUK I save all mailing bags I receive, and small boxes. I reuse them, or even turn a spare bag for life inside out if you have too many. Better than bringing extra plastic into the world.
