Fat stains

hopeishere · 15/07/2021 18:03

I seem to be very prone to getting fat stains on my clothes that I then can't shift. I have a lovely new navy tee shirt, spilt food (tomato sauce based) on it. Washed at 30 and there is still a clear stain.

Do stain devils (a) still exist and (b) work?! Any other suggestions??

Fairy liquid , it's an emulsifier which is needed to grease marks .

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 15/07/2021 18:06

For not to

VanGoghsDog · 15/07/2021 18:07

Yes, rub an emulsifying detergent into it before washing, wash a bit hotter if you can.

Zebrahooves · 15/07/2021 18:20

Yes, I've used Fairy Liquid before now, and it works.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/07/2021 18:22

Neat Fairy liquid ( dish soap) over night then was with bio detergent.

cherrypiepie · 15/07/2021 18:53

Elbow grease spray is amazing for fat stains and. 40 degree wash- didn't work at 30

bathshebaeverbusy · 15/07/2021 18:54

Sprinkle talc on it for a few hours before washing. Absorbs the grease.

hopeishere · 15/07/2021 18:55

Thanks everyone!! Will give the fairy liquid a go!!

Another vote for neat Fairy

FindingMeno · 15/07/2021 18:56

As pp's suggested, and get am apron!

DramaAlpaca · 15/07/2021 18:56

Another vote for washing up liquid. Rub it into the stain then wash as normal.

tywysoges · 15/07/2021 18:59

Yes to fairy for greasy stains, sunshine will work on tomato based stains (even if the clothes are already dry).

purplesequins · 15/07/2021 19:04

washing at 40 would probably help.
and yes to rubbing on washing up liquid/liquid detergent/bar soap on the damp fabric (whatever you have in house)

olderthanyouthink · 15/07/2021 19:11

Wash hotter and longer with good detergent (Ariel is very good) and stain remover (own brand is fine), 40° is the standard minimum here.

tootiredtobother · 15/07/2021 19:13

also going to say Elbow grease, very cheap spray bottle

Zparks · 15/07/2021 19:17

Talcum powder on the stain to absorb the grease, then a longer wash at 40+ degrees.

TheSmallAssassin · 15/07/2021 19:17

I second an apron, I often "forget" to take mine off after cooking and eat with it on. It's essentially a bib for an adult Blush

jay55 · 15/07/2021 19:28

Iron with brown paper over the stain.

TollgateDebs · 16/07/2021 09:27

I use 'Elbow Grease' spray on grease and curry on clothing and it works!

Birkie248 · 16/07/2021 10:19

I wash first on cold with a stain remover (or fairy liquid) then wash against a normal temperature. Something to do with not letting hot water ‘setting’ the stain on the first wash.
