Solutions for matted toddler hair while sleeping?

I have a toddler with the most gorgeous long hair nearly down to her bum. But every morning we have a battle with the brush because she tosses and turns around and sleeps on her back which causes massive mats / birds nest effect on her hair. Is there a solution for helping with this? If I tie it up is makes it worse because the hair mats around the hair tie and I have to cut them out. I've heard about silk shower cap type things for adults to protect their hair but I doubt that she'd keep one on and also that they even make one in her size - she's got a very small head.

Any tips or tricks??

Cutting it just isn't an option for me at this point. She is gorgeous and her hair is gorgeous. We regularly get stopped in the street from people who comment on how beautiful her hair is. It's lovely and thick and goes Into the most gorgeous curls at the bottom.

Goodness. She’s only a toddler and already you’re teaching her that being gorgeous and having other people say she’s beautiful is more important than being comfortable.

This.

Think about what you're teaching your daughter.

You'll be getting her a boob job and lip fillers for her future birthdays at this rate. Eugh.

How does a toddler have hair that long? My DDs hair was barely at her shoulders by the time she started school. Silk pillowcase or maybe one of those soft lycra swimming hats over plaits.

Water and a bit of fabric softener in a spray bottle- magic 🪄
Also “tangle tamer” paddle brush for dry and “wet brush” after a bath

Original Sprout miracle detangler - this stuff is good, with a tangle teaser brush.

Please don't spray your child with fabric softener!

I was that child, and it was all about my mother. I remember the horrors of washing it and combing it out. It was utterly miserable.

My daughter can have long hair when she can truly take care of it, probably 10 or upwards. Until then, my main goal is that she play, without hair getting in the way, and doesn't start thinking that all her worth is to do with how she looks.

Unfortunately she is now the only girl in her class with hair shorter than way past shoulders, they are all exactly the same. Meanwhile the boys have short hair, long hair, no hair...

@Bitofachinwag
Bit of Pearl clutching from you there, please stop sounding so utterly wet, one pump of fabric softener with water in so spray bottle on a kids hair (of which you would use about 5 sprays) won’t harm them. Far better to buy pre made detangler….you might want to check what’s in that Hmm Let me guess your answer was “cut her hair”. Also I’m guessing you don’t know what’s in children shampoo etc if your offended by a quantity of 1/50 of that. I gave a solution. What people chose to do is up to them, I wonder if your this judgy in real life or a full time keyboard judge, I think we know…
