Another **SKIN** thread! Are regular facials worth the money?

I have always had problem skin - quite oily and prone to spots. I finished breastfeeding a couple of months ago since having DD 7m old and my skin is still not great (I have little pimples on my neck and jawline, and others on my chin so I guess they are hormonal).

However, I am having a facial on Tuesday (Decleor) having been quite pleased with one I had in August and I am just beginning to wonder ... with problem skin; maybe a regular facial would help.

Any of you have regular facials find this? If so, I would happily forgo some of my clothes spending money for a monthly facial if you thought it was worth it?!

cod's right. I dismissed them as a load of toshand I kind of hate things like manicures/pedicures/facials which feel frivolous to mebut all of a sudden in my 30s my skin's reverting to teenage skin. I thought maybe I'd have to go on accutane again, like I was when I was 19, but I've had 3 facials with an amazing Hungarian therapist who brings over fab products from Hungary. My skin has cleared up a lot, not just from the facials, but from the products--which I also thought would be a load of tosh but are actually kind of magical, like this anti spot serum that smells like licorice and all of sudden I get hardly any spots after 2 years of being quite spotty. So I grudgingly have to admit that the facials have been helpful.

don't get talked into buying all of their products though. They are normally quite expensive, just ask for samples to see how you get on.

Regular facials are excellent for your skin, however, it is far more important to look after your skin at home.
Drink lots of water, healthy diet - all the stuff you know already. Have a good daily skin care regime - cleanse, tone, moisturise.

Eye cream if you are over 20, moisturiser with an SPF 15 at least in it. Once a week exfoliate - gentle scrub or facial brush or enzyme exfoliator, then massage your face (for at least 5 mins) and neck with oil (you can use virgin olive oil or buy a specialist product) then apply a mask. If you are oily on your nose, chin, forehead inner cheeks area (T-panel) use a deep cleansing mask here, best to use a moisiturising/hydrating mask on the neck and outer cheek area. Once you've removed the mask, wipre area with cotton wool pads with toner on them then apply eye cream and moisturiser.

Always remember to moisturise your neck and work over the neck in an upwards motion - don't drag the skin down and don't drag the skin around the eye area.

It becomes a habit like brushing your teeth and although facials are an added bonus - this will benefit you much more.

Decleor products are luxurious - with a price tag to match but if you buy only 1 thing I would suggest you make it Baume Essential - it is the business.

ENJOY

i've never had a facial in my life.

nor has my mother and she looks fantastic at 65. her sister is even more disgustingly fabulous.

you don't need facials.

i think a lot of having great skin is genetic, anyway.

santascRUMPELedsuit · 25/11/2007 15:35

You're right EXPAT - genes are very decisive, however, you can help with a little TLC. Nobody needs facials but they feel great and boost your skin, calm your nervous sytem, boost the blood supply to the area, strengthens the bones, mobilise the joints and relax the facial muscles.

Not everyone's cup of tea but I find them deeply relaxing and great for some 'me' time! Hope you are feeling btter today.

expatinscotland · 25/11/2007 15:45

my sister had a facial once.

but it didn't relax her or boost her skin.

she broke out. my mother told her, 'that'll teach you!'

she never went back.

i prefer massage. now that i'd have regularly anyday over a facial.

hot stone massage.

HEAVEN!
