Eye make up tutorial for "older" eyes

I need advice as my eye make up just doesn't work any more. I'm 45 and a bit hooded of lid but my first Google / Youtubde gave me a woman with horrid orange lips and mad bouffant hair that's not me at all. Help! My make up suddenly looks shit. Do I need Trinny stuff? Or a double wear by EL mask? My face has little red spots on my cheeks and used to be lovely and ivory and smooth 😭

Look at 'Hot and Flashy" on Youtube- she looks amazing for her age (she's in her 50s) and has lots of eye makeup videos.

NotMyCat · 13/07/2021 23:52

Here's some Smile
Lisa Eldridge (YouTube)
Hannah Martin (Instagram)
Katie Jane hughes (Instagram)
Alexandra Anele (YouTube) her how to blend videos are fab
Wayne Goss (YouTube)

What's not working with it, and what's your usual eye makeup?

NotquitewhatImeant · 14/07/2021 07:54

Caroline Barnes. She’s just done a hooded eye tutorial.

MoltonSilver · 14/07/2021 08:53

Only use matt eye shadow. Anything with any sparkle in it will emphasise the hooding.

YeahNahWhal · 14/07/2021 08:57

Wayne Goss is the best for hooded eyes.

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/07/2021 08:57

Defo Angie on Hot and Flashy, Gemma at Pampered Wolf, and Caroline Barnes at Speed Beauty - all YouTube, all fab and useful

Previously I used beige neutral shadow and then darker in the crease and to outside edges and then fine line of either darker shadow used like liner then of going out a thicker line of liner. It just looks crap all of a sudden and without my nice skin I used to have, I just look a bit "she doesn't usually use make up " as it looks all wrong

Pics of what orange lip lady said to do - using lighter on bottom and bit of darker in the crease but no darker near lashes.
Better but creased already though didn't use primer today and I do normally. It's been worse since I had Botox as eyes seem to droop more??

I second Wayne Goss and Lisa Eldridge! I’m younger than you but have had eyes hooded in a similar way to yours my whole life. This Lisa Eldridge video was great for me Smile

No clue about the best eyeshadow colours either. I'm all at sea these days

I have hooded eyes, think you're nearly there, try adding a bit of liner/darker shadow on the outer third of top lid close to lashes and more mascara than you think you need.

I also highlight the middle of my lid with a lighter colour on top

Good celebrities to google for hooded eyes are Jennifer Morrison, Blake lively and Ginnifer Goodwin

Mommybunny · 14/07/2021 14:31

Wayne Goss’s straight line technique for hooded eyes was life changing for me.

Nisha from SugarPuffandFluff and Dominique Sachse have good tutorials as well for hooded eyes.

backtonormalonedaysoon · 14/07/2021 14:31

Oh and my top tip for inexpensive cream shadow that stays put is maybelline colour tattoo (little pots)

DedalusBloom · 15/07/2021 09:16

Another second for Nisha at Sugar Puff and Fluff. The theory is solid- you don't have to go for the full look like she does but basically you need to look at your eyes straight on in a mirror without raising your brows and mark the point above the crease that is visible on the hooded skin.

Then take your shadow up to that point so it's actually ON the hooded bit. So when your eyes are relaxed it looks like you have a hollow where you don't.

I haven't explained that very well but it's quite simple. Use a mushroomy colour and you're done. Grin

I'm watching Nisha but fear I don't have the right brushes. I may post a new thread about a decent low cost bunch of brushes
