Polishing toenails

Hi, can anyone remember the thread about an easy way to polish toenails (and maybe provide a link?).

It was something to do with painting the nails, slathering moisturiser on and then rinsing it off, leaving the nails nicely polished but without splashing the polish all over the skin.

Thanks!

I'm confused. Don't you just use a regular nail polish out and brush it on? I give myself regular pedicures and paint my toe nails every month. It never chips or peels and the polish stays on my toe nails 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for this. Maybe I'm not explaining myself very clearly. My Dd normally does them for me and makes a great job of it so I never really have to think about it. However DD is on holiday and I scraped one of the nails so I removed the polish on all of them. Now I am making a mess of putting on the fresh polish and it looks a bit scruffy. I remembered an old thread where the poster had explained a 'foolproof' method for polishing them neatly even without experience, I was hoping I could do a similar job on them until Dd gets back at the weekend.

I think the moisturiser plan will work. Paint the nails, slather moisturiser on, put socks on and leave for a few hours then have a bath to wash it off (and scrub with a flannel a bit!).

Good luck!

Thanks Sandboy, I'll give it a try. I have a couple of things to go out to this week so would like them to look tidy, especially if the weather forecast is right, ie. sandals weather!

Ah I see. Well if I ever get polish on my skin I just use a q-tip dipped in nail polish remover and carefully take it off. Could you do that? I've never heard of the lotion trick before

66babe · 13/07/2021 21:06

I do mine sometimes - never make a great job of it
Next day when I'm in the shower I just scrub my toenails and any "extra" bits just come off

cardoon · 13/07/2021 21:33

Is it the drunken technique you're thinking of Grin

I've done a lot of things drunk cardoon not sure that polishing my nails has even come that high on the list!

It just means lash it on, go to bed and scrub you're feet in the shower in the morning = perfect pedicure

My best nail painting tip is using an emery board to tidy the edges. Its rough enough to pick up the nail polish (I do it when wet, you don't have to scrub it's just a swipe) and the straight edge helps control things

SirenSays · 13/07/2021 22:07

You can paint liquid latex or thick pva glue around nails and then just peel it off when you're done. I either use latex or while the polish is still wet, I'll use a nail tool to just scrape it off.

Thanks all some good tips here!

It's really hard to explain how I do it Grin
I kind of hold my toe and tilt my foot so I can see the edges of the nail, wipe off the excess polish on the bottle as you can always do another coat and make sure you have decent light so you can see what you're doing

EccentricaGalumbits · 14/07/2021 00:00

I'm not sure how much mess you're making but I usually have a cotton tip handy, and just soak that in polish remover to tidy up any bits where I missed the nail. That doesn't happen often though, unless drunk as a pp said Grin. Bit of practice and I'm sure your accuracy will improve.

inmyheadimthequeen · 14/07/2021 08:04

Thanks all for taking the time to respond. I think I was trying a bit too hard with the dark red that I normally wear, it was magnifying the errors. I've changed to a paler colour and done the moisture/scrub thing - I didn't think it was that successful but the remaining smudges paler colour has wiped away with the cotton bud and remover so I now have something I can cope with for a few days.

Appreciate the help!
