How to get this hair colour? With pics.

I'm booked in September to have a restyle cut and a full head of highlights.

Short haired picture is the cut I'm asking for. Very short because I gave myself a short lockdown hair cut, so just want it styled out nicely.

The picture with the longer hair is what I want the colour to be like after the highlights.

I currently have dyed black hair. Natural colour is dark brown. I'm not a home dye or home bleach novice. So, I'm hoping to remove the black and get my hair a light brown colour at home, before going in for the full head of highlights. So, in the picture with long hair, I need to try and achieve a similar base colour. Any suggestions on how to do this? Bleach it and then a brown dye on top? etc.

Thanks.

Let your natural colour grow in from now until September. I'd have the hairdressers strip the remaining black dye. You want balayage rather than a full head of highlights to get that colour.

Leave it to the hairdresser but I’d say, no more black dye, colour stripper for residual dye, ash light brown all over colour with a bleach balayage. I’ve had similar from a purple / black dye, lots of overlapping home colour too. It’s now brown level 5 with caramel balayage.

Thank you! Now just wondering whether to highlight it or not. Maybe just a nice all over brown? Hmmm.

Have narrowed it down to these three colours (not styles, just colour), but I can't decide between them! Any one help?

Those are all very different colours! You've got a blonde, a brunette, and a very dark brown.

I know! I can't decide which to go for. The darkest is closest to my natural colour. DH thinks I should go for something different and get the blonde though. But I'm wondering whether sticking closest to my natural colour would be best.

You need to talk to the hairdresser in advance. Likely you will need a colour correct to start (region of £60) before you can proceed.

I'd do it in stages. Cut first then lighten over a few visits.

Speak to your hairdresser about what is realistically achievable.

Notapheasantplucker · 15/07/2021 17:18

I'd leave all of the colour down to the hairdresser. You could end up ruining your hair and end up paying more to fix it. I wouldn't chance it.

I would go with your original idea of the blonde balayage and use your natural root for the darker colour.
