I have no waist. How am I supposed to wear high-waisted jeans?

This new trend is killing me. I loved the old low-cut jeans that rest nicely on the hips. But these high-waisted jeans are impossible for my body shape. I can't even do them up in my usual size. But when I go up a size, they're too big on my hips and bum, and I'm still struggling to breathe.

I'm not sure what you'd call my body type. It's not an apple as I'm not round, just straight. I have narrow hips, practically no bum, and I don't go in at the waist at all. Size 8-10, depending on the shop.

Is there anyone else out there with a similar problem? Have you found high-waisted jeans that fit? Or somewhere that still sells low/mid-rise?

You are a rectangle shape. Those high waisted ones are for pears and hour glass shapes. Ignore and go with what works.

elp30 · 12/07/2021 17:55

I have no waist and a rounded belly and no backside.
I always say that God put my lower half on backwards.
All trousers look terrible on me so I wear skirts and dresses.

OP, go with what works for you and don't follow the trend.

thedevilinablackdress · 12/07/2021 18:59

Happy pear here embracing the jeans that fit for a change - but there's LOADS of jeans styles about at the moment. What's your budget?

StarlightLady · 13/07/2021 07:12

Just avoid! I won’t wear them, sitting down makes me feel as if I’m being cut in half. In addition, l really don’t want to wear anything that almost comes up to my bra! Some are coming up so high now that you could almost tuck a cropped top into them.

Low and medium rise are still available out there.

Greyandrare123 · 13/07/2021 07:35

Are you short waisted? I am so have no space between my rib cage and hip bone. Any belts, high waisted jeans and skirts I wear look like they are sitting under my boobs if I dont choose carefully and tops have a tendency to swamp. Finding my waist is almost impossible.
I tend to find mid rise falls high on me so if I want high waisted I go for those but generally I look for low waisted to stop the under the boobs look.

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 13/07/2021 07:49

I have exactly the same problem. I was young in the 80s and hated wearing jeans, so relied on leggings and jogging bottoms mainly. I wasn't even overweight! But like you, slim hips and flat bum. Short waisted too, so very little room between hip bone and lowest rib.
I was so happy when the jeans that sit on your hip became available! Even though I had to wear a belt to hold them up Grin
I'm a little bigger around the middle now, but not much. I current fit quite well into Sainsbury straight leg jeans (still with a belt though!)
I really don't enjoy clothes shopping as it's so hard to find things with a flattering fit.
My lucky dd is a taller size 10 with curves in all the right places, and can just buy clothes off the rack. I envy her!!
Good luck Smile

I have the same issue. It’s only recently I have become more aware of body shape rather than body size. It’s really all about shape rather than size. High waisted jeans don’t suit me as I am an Apple. You need to wear what is comfy and makes you feel good.

grasstreeleaf · 13/07/2021 08:29

H&M teenage boys 14+ . Look at the size guide to check your measurements but I'm an 8 to 10 and they fit me. The ones I have bought have an elastic inside to adjust the waist and are quite generous but you can pull in to fit. They sit on the waist.

I'm a pear and can't wear them. I have larger hips, but my waist is still quite big.
OhTheTastyNuts · 13/07/2021 19:37

I can't wear high waisted jeans as my body is so short (all my height is in my legs). I buy Diesel Jeans - usually from eBay. They fasten nice and low!

Granohlaa · 13/07/2021 19:41

Let the pears/hourglasses have their day! I’m chunky or leg and small of waist and I’m over the moon we’ve moved in the denim direction that we have. Skinnies have been in for too long Smile

ViciousJackdaw · 14/07/2021 01:41

I'm a long rectangle too and I just give the high waisted jeans a miss. Wear what suits your body.

Finfintytint · 14/07/2021 01:53

God, I’m the same. Narrow hips, no bum but straight down from ribs. Boyish figure but a bit thicker round the middle. Men’s trousers fit me at work but looking for jeans that flatter the middle aged me.

Kanaloa · 14/07/2021 02:29

Super dry still sells mid/low rise jeans! I think top shop do as well. They’ll be coming back into fashion soon I think, all the 90s/2000s stuff is on its way back in.

NiceGerbil · 14/07/2021 02:37

Hunt for the things that suit you and you feel confident and comfy in.

I'm not a style and beauty reg so my advice may be out of step!

I'm an apple. The years of ever tighter jeans have been awful, I tried some on a couple of times and yikes...

Before that the low rise days when the press laughed at 'muffin top' even though most had no bloody choice... Terrible!

Anyway I started wearing flares in about 1995 and they suit my short apple build (and my personality/ look!) so fine. Apart from it's a bugger to find them...

Find a version of the look that suits you and makes you feel good then rock it!

lavenderlou · 14/07/2021 03:46

I'm the same size and shape as you. I just can't wear them as they feel too tight on my waist. If I size up they are too baggy on the bum and thighs. I have one ok pair of high waist flares from M&S but they still aren't as comfortable as other jeans. I just have to buy mid-rise instead. There is luckily a wide range of jeans styles available at the moment.

newnortherner111 · 14/07/2021 06:55

Fashion is not designed with everyone in mind, it is for the benefit of clothing manufacturers and retailers, to try to persuade you to spend money before you need to, before clothes have worn out.

There is no obligation to follow fashion if you don't like it or you think it does not look good on you.

Floisme · 14/07/2021 08:36

I'm sure the op is aware that there's no requirement to wear them. I think she's just asking if anyone who's a similar shape to her has any tips.

I love them op so I'm no help, sorry.

lotsofchooksnducks · 14/07/2021 09:52

I would think men's jeans would suit you?
(They are probably cheaper snd better quality too!)

ExConstance · 14/07/2021 10:05

I don't like high rise jeans. I've got myself some low rise flared jeans from New Look, they seem to be back in fashion too. They look much nicer on me.

Gwenhwyfar · 14/07/2021 19:34

It's one thing to say there's no requirement, but then if more than half the jeans in shops are of that style, it can be difficult to find other styles so you are sort of stuck with it.
Floisme · 14/07/2021 19:59

Maybe, but having lived through years and years when there was nothing but low rise and skinnies on the high street then I have to say 'more than half' sounds pretty good odds to me. Much as I sympathise with anyone wanting to try a trend and finding it doesn't suit, I don't remember there ever being more choice of jeans than right now.

Mirw · 16/07/2021 19:53

Why flow fashion. Wear ehat you want, what suits your figure and be happy. Fashion is for shallow people...

Yawn.. Some of us enjoy fashion and take an interest in what we and other around us wear, why does that make us shallow? This is a style and beauty thread so if you don't care about style that's fair enough but why comment? @SofaLofa I am also quite rectangular and have had the same issue with high waist jeans. The worst ones are Mom jeans which seem to be cut for people with a waist and hips (not me). I have found that Levi's high waist straight leg crop jeans are actually very flattering so I would say try straight leg rather than Mom style.
Milomonster · 17/07/2021 14:22

I love Zara’s mom jeans, which are high-waisted and straight. I have a very boyish figure - small waist, straight hips, flat tummy, slim legs and a bloody awful flat bum. But, the pockets conceal the lack of shapely arse. I think high waist works with a lovely tucked in top.
Just tried on the mist divine knitted high waisted joggers in Fenwick - looked amazing on the front but had to give them a miss as my arse looked truly awful without pockets.
