Lightweight Foundation/Skin Tints/Tinted Moisturiser for Oily Skin

I love the look of skin tints, tinted moisturisers, and lightweight foundations, they have such a lovely effortless glow, but they seem almost exclusively formulated for normal to dry skin, and older skin. I am late twenties and am definitely on the oily side, so I think most would just slip off my face within a few hours. I'm not afraid of a bit of glow, but I know most of these formulas would just break up and look horrible on me, or need constant maintenance with powder. A few I have seen that I think might work are:

-Bite Beauty Changemaker Supercharged Micellar Foundation
-Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Oil Free Natural Skin Perfector
-NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

Does anyone have any experience with the above products, or have any other recommendations for me? I don't mind spending on a good product, but don't want to waste my money on something not suitable for my skin type.

I have tried so many different ones and had almost given up hope. I went to the Chanel counter at the weekend (for perfume), and saw this. Honestly it's amazing. So lightweight, goes on beautifully and is buildable. Quite pricey but honestly, worth every penny!

@ILoveFlumps thanks I will check it out, would you describe your skin as oily? How does it last and wear over a day?

I recently got Bobbi Brown serum foundation and it’s terrible. It settles in every pore and line, no matter how much I shake it still comes out separated and I look like a total oil slick from the word go. Avoid.

RockaLock · 12/07/2021 18:58

OP, I had a few samples of the Chanel tinted moisturiser mentioned above.

It was absolutely lovely - but it literally slid off my oily forehead part way through the day.

A better primer might have helped, but I still don't think it would be great for oily skin.

I've not tried any of the ones on your list, sorry, but every tinted moisturiser I have ever tried, including ones specifically for oily skin, have not really been suited to my skin.

At the moment I am using erborian bb creme, which is light but good coverage, and lasts reasonably well on me.

Niconacotaco · 12/07/2021 19:05

How about foundation drops mixed into your moisturiser or SPF?
I'm using the Erborian one mentioned above. I find it slightly oilier than Bare Minerals complexion Rescue but it goes on much nicer.
Recently tried Pixi H2O skin tint and it didn't last. Felt nice going on though.

I wouldn’t go for the NARS if you’re oily

They up until a year ago did a matte tinted moisturiser but discontinued it

I suggest tints rather than a tinted moisturiser

NYX
Morphe 2

Have you tried using niacinamide? I don’t have hugely oily skin, more oily t-zone and I found niacinamide helped a lot to rebalance my oil production. I use the niacinamide and zinc serum from The Ordinary.

I’ve also recently switched to using a mineral powder foundation - my serum foundation looked awful on top of SPF50 so I switched to mineral powder and it’s much better. Really light coverage and doesn’t clog pores so won’t make the situation worse. I use Lily Lolo and I liked that you can buy small samples to check colour before paying for a full tub. I also got their matte finishing powder which I use very lightly where needed and my skin has a lovely glow.

I have combination skin. So oily patches here and there. It lasts pretty much all day at work, and so far very impressed.

Coffeepot72 · 12/07/2021 19:50

I have given up on this type of product, I always end up with an oil slick no matter how much primer or powder I use. So my ‘solution’ is a touch of facial self tanner.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 12/07/2021 19:57

To follow on from PP, Sensai Bronzing Gel is absolutely gorgeous but quite drying, would work beautifully on oily skin I think.

TableNiner · 12/07/2021 20:03

I think oily skin and glowy tinted moisturisers are always going to be a bad combination. The whole idea of products like this are to add moisture/hydration. If you have oily skin, they will often sit on the skin or split after a few hours, even if they seem OK when first applied.

I’ve started using Bare Minerals mineral foundation, which is a much better match for my chronically oily skin, I don’t find oil and grease pooling on my chin after an hour. In fact my natural oils actually work to give a creamy finish.

SummaLuvin · 12/07/2021 20:20

Thanks for advice and recommendations I will look into all of them.

I’m not after anything exceptionally glowy, just a natural very lightweight finish. It seems cosmetics companies assume people only want that your-skin-but-better if they have normal to dry skin, and think anyone with oily skin wants high coverage, super matte, 32 hours lasting power 🙄 Skin tints are definitely trending right now, so hopefully oily girl friendly ones will be developed. I was hopeful when Fenty releases theirs but reviews suggest it’s not suitable for oily skin.

I have oily skin and use La Roche Posay Effaclar tinted moisturiser. It doesn’t have a lot of coverage, definitely a tinted moisturiser rather than anything more, but it’t not bad oil wise.

TheWeeDonkey · 12/07/2021 20:35

Since menopause my skin has been oilier than ever, sorry for the warning @SummaLuvin. I tried the Eborian cream which goes on lovely but oxidises and then transfers on everything else something chronic on my skin. TBH the best thing I've found so far is Garnier BB Cream www.amazon.co.uk/Garnier-Miracle-Perfector-Effect-Medium/dp/B008360RII/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=garnier+bb+cream+medium&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1626118331&sr=8-2 a really light coverage but evens my skin out nicely and makes a good primer for if I want to wear proper foundation.
