Essential oils to use at night.

I have a diffuser I use at night. I'm still experimenting what to put in. Any tips?

Also wondering if anyone uses any oils to manage spasm style pain? ( don't worry I've seen a Dr) . I even wake in night with spasm type pain in my abdomen.
I'd been advised sweet marjoram in a carrier oil then massage in. 2 problems. I can't tolerate it's smell , and it doesn't do anything.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you.

Chamomile oil is supposed to help with stomach ache but I always forget to use it and just take buscopan!

Lavender oil is very relaxing and ylang ylang is comforting. Peppermint oil is said to help with stomach pain.

Peppermint wouldn’t be great at night because it’s a stimulant, it could keep you awake. Lavender, sweet orange or sandalwood would be best. Ginger is also good for spasms although again you might find it too stimulating at night. Also you will probably get better results if you massage them (diluted) directly into your stomach rather than using a diffuser.

Or put some on an flannel/muslin cloth and put that against your stomach with a heat pad or hot water bottle over the top. Again, you need to dilute the oil to avoid irritating your skin.

I use Lavender oil really has helped with my sleep especially during lockdown.

Lavender oil at night is lovely. Have you tried peppermint tea for spasms? For information re essential oils this company Verde is great - the products are excellent. They sell various essential oil blends, including Peace Solution and Tranquility and Relaxing blends. They do mail order, and you can call the shop for advice.

I should have included the fact that I can't tolerate lavender. I know everyone loves it but bleurgh.

So I started with Saddlewood, clary sage, camomile and bergamont but I like a bit of a citrus smell.

So next night I added clary sage , camomile, bergamont. (And with my new diffuser I got some trial oils) so I added sweet orange and Grapefruit.

I loved it.

Today in the living room I have a citrus mix , neroli and jasmine. It's lovely.

I also got this invite to a secret fb group on aromatherapy and they're doing some aromatherapy sessions on zoom where you your camera and sound won't be on.

If anyones interested I'll post the email info

To add to the spasm pain. I take peppermint capsules.

I've managed to get a burn from my hot water bottle despite it being in a cover and it being placed over clothes.

So I was advised Marjoram and neroli can work for spasm pain. I tried Marjoram which did not do much. Today I'm trying Neroli.

The weird thing is I wake every night around 5.30 with bad spasm pain in my guts.

I adore frankincense and find it used at most opportunities even though I have a lot of oils to choose from, I find myself drawn to that.

Also blends well with other oils I like such as benzoin (also good for sleep and another recommendation), myrrh, lavender, bergamot, sweet orange and ylang ylang

I used to absolutely love geranium but now can’t stand it.

The olfactory system is a strange mistress- basically any advice/suggestions will be hit and miss, so you just have to follow your nose!

Torvean · 13/07/2021 16:44

@DoylyCarte, I love sweet orange bergamot and ylang ylang.
I find pink Grapefruit and night jasmine go well with them.
