Does anyone use a dermaplaning thingy to remove face fluff?

this

Are they any good, I'm a bit worried about the photos of spots on some of the reviewers.

Are the any good, any tips?

I used a sealed packet blade, sterilised the skin before doing it, used an oil as instructed and still ended up with folliculitis (looked like an awful breakout) both times. Still have some of the scarring pigmentation months and months later.

Initially though I loved it, it gives the skin a real glow and feels super smooth, makeup soft skincare goes on a million times better. Just not worth it for me.

For extra info I don't have any thick or dark hair on my face anywhere, just a reasonable amount of vellous hairs (peach fuzz). It did and does have a slight stubble feel when growing back in which surprised me.

Yeah I use shesido blades from Amazon, be gentle is my only tip! The first time I did it I was so fascinated by the dry skin coming off I ended up making my skin quite red! Use some gentle products after you do it. No retinol or exfoliation etc.
I don’t think it’s a good idea if you have spots tbh and if you were to re-use blades I would expect spots and other problems! Mixed make up Susan yara did a good video on how to do it which is what I followed. It hasn’t affected my hair re-growth at all except the fist bit of re-growth feels different because instead of the fine tapered tip of the hair you are getting a blunt end where it has been cut.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the replies, think I'll give it a miss. I scar badly from spots and don't need anything else that might make me break out.

I can’t think of it as anything but shaving. No way would I do that to soft, fine, facial hair.

I use the Hollywood Browser blades, had a break out the first time but never after that. Notice a real difference in my skin after using them.

tootiredtobother · 12/07/2021 10:18

humm ive got these fixed blade things, my peach fuzz is very fine and blond, i find them amazing, no break outs, dont have spots anyway (old)
be careful going round eyebrows did nick myself first time. but the result is skincare goes on much better

I do this and I haven’t had any adverse events or reactions at all. I probably do it about once every 3 to 4 weeks though.

I go quite gently and make sure to stretch the skin a bit. I don’t use any oil, creams or lotions though. I do it on clean skin and make sure I’ve left it at least half an hour after cleansing.

I love these. Can't do without them. I have lots of lovely menopausal fluff and they get rid of it easily. I also use them to shape my brows. All I'd say is make sure you moisturise well with something suitable for sensitive skin afterwards and don't use a glycolic acid tonic like I once did. Ouch.

Imtoooldforallthis · 12/07/2021 10:46

I have tried this but everytime I get ingrowing hairs which then develop into spots.

Jackiejoo · 12/07/2021 12:45

You should try one of these very portable usb chargeable as well they work I got one after my friend recommended and I would definitely buy again. Think it was around £18 so a bargain.

dementedma · 12/07/2021 12:58

I use a Hollywood Browser and its fab. Skin feels so different afterwards

Feather12 · 14/07/2021 00:34

I have never got spots from dermaplaning, I am also always so surprised by how long the results last. I do it probably about every six weeks or so, it is definitely not like shaving. (Although shaving does not make hair grow thicker either, or it would be an amazing hair restorative procedure)

lolacola77 · 14/07/2021 00:58

I got it done at a salon and didn't notice any benefit at all

Kanaloa · 14/07/2021 02:38

I sometimes do it before a special event if I’m going to be wearing makeup. It does make the makeup sit better, but it wasn’t noticeable enough to be done daily. I didn’t get any spots or issues, I use a clean new one each time.

Clydesider · 14/07/2021 17:55

I found my face became 'fluffy' after the menopause so I've started using these. I only do it about once a month and use a new blade each time, as I read that a dull blade could lead to ingrowing hairs or spots. I would recommend pulling the skin tight and being very gentle.

Have you tried one of those springy things that sort of pluck it all out?
