Talk to me about foundation?

I have never worn foundation, but I've developed bad acne around my chin and cheeks in my mid-thirties and I really want to find something to cover it up.

I'd preferably like something lightweight so not to encourage more spots, I also don't have a huge budget but could stretch for something decent.

Any ideas?

Would you say your skin was oily or dry?
Do you want a sort of glowy finish or a matte finish?

MouldyPotato · 11/07/2021 06:51

And do you need a good range of dark/pale shades to choose from?

Ilovealdi · 11/07/2021 07:15

I have dry skin and would like a glowy finish, I am olive skinned.

Have you spoken to your GP about your skin at all? Just thinking that it could be rosacea and there are a number of treatments you could try.

MouldyPotato · 11/07/2021 07:41

I like the Nars Sheer Glow, as it's quite buildable and lots of shades. It's not really glowy but it isn't matte.

MouldyPotato · 11/07/2021 07:42

And as @WeAreTheHeroes says, maybe speak to your GP if you haven't already.

Unihorn · 11/07/2021 07:45

I'm going to jump on for ideas as well as my skin's the same, but I assumed it was the masks and (ironically) the fact that I'm probably touching my face more to adjust it through the day.

WeAreTheHeroes · 11/07/2021 07:51

It's the dryness plus spots which are making me think you may have rosacea.

HermioneGrunger · 11/07/2021 07:58

Acne rosacea does seem to love appearing on women's faces in their 30/40s as pp have said so yes please see your Gp, you don't have to put up with it.

Talk us through your skincare routine, when my AR started it rapidly went from nothing to something and I had to adjust my skincare accordingly.

Dior's Forever glow foundation has good coverage and gives a glow. Or Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation and use an illuminating primer underneath gives good, buildable cover. Neither are cheap but a little goes a long way and they last for aggggggeeeesssss.

Bars Pure Radiant - the only foundation I can use without aggravating my rosacea. Doesn’t transfer too much on to a mask, either.

Demortuisnilnisibonum · 11/07/2021 08:00

*NARS!

PomegranateQueen · 11/07/2021 08:03

Just a thought, could it be from wearing a mask? I found the fabric masks made me break out around my chin and cheeks. I wear disposable ones now and don't have a problem.

Paddingtonthebear · 11/07/2021 08:06

I used to use Nars Sheer Glow, it’s very nice. And Laura Mercier.

I’ve now switched to this which I like just as much and it’s much cheaper

I think a concealer set with powder is a better way to cover spots sometimes.

I’m also olive skinned, the best thing I have found is Mac Stufio fix compact which is a powder foundation, you just pay it on with the sponge thingy.

Ilovealdi · 11/07/2021 09:04

It definitely improves when I'm not wearing a mask so will try a non-fabric one.

It's not rosacea, it's big painful zits with heads on them around my chin, neck mainly. It's also hormonal acne. I'm taking supplements etc but no avail.

I use a sukin foaming cleanser, which is great or neals yard wild rose beauty balm for cleansing or exfoliating with and a mild elemis toner. I moisturise with a holland and Barrett hydrating moisturiser or neals yard frankincense one.

I had considered nars before so will look into this one. How do you colour match your skin effectively?
