Recommendations for sun-damaged décolletage

Years of neglecting myself when applying the kids' suncream has taken its toll Sad
My chest area is permanently pinkish-looking from over exposure to the sun (I wear a lot of vest tops, even in the cooler weather, with a cardigan), and is crepey/wrinkled. The skin around that area is sometimes itchy too. I'm 47 but have the décolletage of an older woman.
I'm kicking myself but am now taking more care. I'm also aware of the cancer risk to my skin, but that's for a different thread and I'd rather not focus on it here.
I'd really like to try and repair the area, and improve its appearance. However I have no idea where to start.
Can anyone recommend any products to specifically target the chest area? Normal moisturiser won't cut it.
Thanks.

You might look into IPL or fraxel treatment, if the budget will stretch.

Suzi888 · 10/07/2021 20:31

Use spf 50- it’s never too late. A good skin oil /moisturiser at night.
Possibly a visit to your GP if the area is itchy.
Profhilo treatments?

A vitamin C serum on the area each evening with moisturiser on top should help

I've been using bio oil for a while, for me it's my neck but also have the pinkish you describe too. It does seem to be improving but that's after months of use.

Have you thought if LED light therapy masks. Some of them are flexible so can be laid over your chest. LED is meant to be healing and rejuvenating. I don't how much science there is to it, but I've heard good things.

Ideally your day cream should have SPF in it, min SPF 20. When you apply this, apply it to your face, neck, décolletage and back of hands at the same time, even in winter.

If it's not a very potent anti ageing cream (there's often a trade off between SPF and anti ageing ingredients) then get a better anti ageing cream to use at night to reduce wrinkles and signs of ageing.

I’ve got this, used if for a couple of weeks and my skin appears softer and looks better. Feels lovely and cool when you roll it on. Even if it’s not helping then it’s making me pay attention to that area and moisturise there.

I’ve just started using the same products as I do on my face on that skin. So if you put retinol on your face, put it there too. Use spf 50 every day.

I’ve also dug out the serums and creams I’ve bought or received in beauty boxes that were shoved to the back of a drawer because they didn’t agree with my skin (on my face). I stick them on from the neck down!

Earlydancing · 10/07/2021 21:22

Moisturisers can be humectant, emollients, and occlusive. They'll soften the skin, maybe sooth it but they won't repair sun damage.

ValerieMorghulis · 10/07/2021 21:23

I also use up all the spare products like @Ghosttile so my décolletage rarely sees the same product for more than a week but gets some treats! Same for my hands. They are all looking better

Thanks everyone - what a lovely board this is!

I brought the Prai cream from boots it was on offer buy 1 get one half price, I've used one tub just starting the second, no differents on the lines on my chest its a nice cream but no different to other creams I have used.

lindyloo57 · 10/07/2021 21:40

just to add, I now going to use my vit c from the ordinary on my chest, I have been using it on my face every morning before I use my moisturiser and seen a difference, my face feels smoother and my sun spots seems less obvious.

Earlydancing · 10/07/2021 21:50

I agree, vitamin c helps hyperpigmentation as does niacinimide. Both are antioxidants but niacinimide is gentler. They both increase cell turnover so make sure you protect the new skin with a spf50.

WaltzingBetty · 11/07/2021 09:49

I treat my neck and décolletage the same as my face so use the same products
It's definitely made a difference to my skin here

StCharlotte · 11/07/2021 15:22

I use E45 daily lotion spray on decollétage, arms and legs. I'm 57. I have the face of a 102 year old but the body of a teenager Grin
