Silk dress clinging like it's cheap nylon.

Wore my gorgeous posh dress last night for just the second time, cos I had a do to go to (work related sadly not because I have a fantastic social life )

It clung to my legs all evening. Grr.... It's proper silk and I didn't think it would do that.

Does anyone have prior experience of this? Do I:

  • Have to find a new storage bag for it? It's been in an Ikea plasticy one - is that what caused it?
  • I was wearing tights but that wasn't a problem last time. And couldn't go without.
  • Do I have to get a flippin slip or something to go under it. Would rather not. Frock is knee length but has a high slit which goes right to the top of my leg when I sit down, so don't want something frilly sticking out underneath. Have a feeling that wouldn't be a simple trip to M&S....

Any advice?

i have a feeling how you've stored it has caused your problems, but not entirely sure, sorry.

I am sure you can buy slips things that have slits up

Have to admit to not having any myself (as I don't ever wear dresses) but I am sure my mum used to wear them - and there the peticoat ones were actually quite nice (and sexy)... not at all granified

Agree re storage, too much static.

pukkapatch · 24/11/2007 09:22

this is nt much use toyou, obviously, but i prefer to buy such things with lining. becaseue of the obvious problems with the separate slip things.

MrsBadger · 24/11/2007 09:25

hairspray your tights before putting it on

MascaraOHara · 24/11/2007 09:29

it's deffo your tuights, I have a merino wool dress thgat does that with nylon tights - it would be fine with wool ones (but prob wouldn't go). Don't think a slip will help to be hinest.

Fake tan those pins! or buy tights with less lycra content?

MascaraOHara · 24/11/2007 09:30

nylon not lycra (and sorry bout tyoing)

SheepishPeachesMcLean · 24/11/2007 09:45

LOL at thought of hairspraying tights

Deffo not going bare legged. TBH it's more slinky than skimpy - got a high collar for instance so I think it looks best with thick black tights. For a winter do it works ok. And with that slit, no tights would mean a vast amount of thigh exposed when sat down. Not a pleasant sight!

Will track down a cotton dress cover and get some hairspray in, just in case!

oh, if wearing opaques try cotton or wool tights
look, tis a common problem atm

3littlefrogs · 24/11/2007 10:06

Kleeneasy (sp?)do an antistatic spray. I have used it for a similar problem with success. Spray it on tights. Not sue if It would be ok on silk. Will go and find my glasses and the spray and see what it says.

3littlefrogs · 24/11/2007 10:10

It says test on an inconspicuous area of delicate fabrics first.

I also sparay it on the inside of my coat, and on the car seat if travelling to the event by car.

SheepishPeachesMcLean · 24/11/2007 10:18

Mrs Badger, surely no one else could have faced the same problem. i thought I was unique!
