Uniqlo Heattech any good? And what size? Help!

I'm looking at Uniqlo heattech ultra warm long-sleeved tops as an alternative way to keep warm on my top half when WFH in winter. I usually wear many layers but always end up topping it all off with a sherpa hoodie. And I'd like to ditch the hoodie cos it's become a bit of a uniform and not a very attractive one.

The Uniqlo tops are often recommended here, but I can't work out what size to go for. It seems that they come up small. But as I'm hoping to wear them as a base layer under quite close-fitting jersey long-sleeved t-shirts (almost as underwear, I guess) I'm thinking tighter would be a good thing. On the other hand, I don't want to feel constricted and aware that I'm wearing it IYSWIM. The reviews on Trustpilot are horrendous with regard to their poor returns policy, so I'd like to try and get the sizing right first time!

I'm a smallish size 12 on the top and largish 12 on the bottom. 5'8" tall. I was going to go for a M. That's the size I'd normally wear in somewhere like Gap. Can anyone advise?

I think I tend to go for S in heattech maybe more of a 10-12 depending

I love the stuff. It’s great and has really transformed winter and cold weather for me

I wear marks and spencer one's, they do a thicker one and a thiner one, I size up more in the thiner one, I just brought in john lewis sale a long sleeved thiner one again I size up.

I’m a 10 / 32C and I wear M although could probably wear S quite comfortably. I wear mine as tops or under slip dresses/dungarees more than I do layers under jumpers so whilst they are nicely fitted they don’t cling/stretch over every lump and bump like some things can.

I think heattech is brilliant - thin warm layers

I'm all over the place with sizing - I can be anywhere between a 6 and a 12 depending on brand, 5ft 6 BMI 20, size S in uniqlo

I'm 10-12 and go for medium. Lived in heat tech working from home in the winter!

TheUndoingProject · 06/07/2021 13:06

I’m go for a medium.

I’m a size 10 and I wear a small if I want them very fitted as an under-layer that won’t be seen, and a medium if I might want to take my jumper off and have them on show as a t-shirt.

The extra warm is thick enough to wear alone a t-shirt, the original is so thin it’s too sheer to wear alone.

*I’d

I'm normally 8-10 (but mostly 10) and I get the Small - slim fitting enough to wear under something else but without clinging to every bulge.

They're very useful - I'm wearing one today under a shirt - but I don't find them very hard wearing, e.g. I stocked up on some last autumn and already they're looking tired and bobbly. The thicker ones have worn better.

So basically I like them I may try the M&S ones next time.

Thanks, everyone! Really helpful. I've gone with the M in a couple of colours and will see how I get on.

I'm a 14 and wear a large, I like it tight as I wear under a shirt. They really are amazing, I can sit in a chilly portacabin and not have to keep my big coat on.

MareofBeasttown · 06/07/2021 15:36

I love them but they go bobbly in a year. But wonderfully warm.

lindyloo57 · 06/07/2021 18:28

@Floisme if you buy the marks ones, I find the thicker one bobble after 1 year, I do wear them from around October to May, the thiner ones wear better.

Floisme · 06/07/2021 18:42

Thanks lindy - that's interesting that you find the thinner M&S ones wear better. Maybe thicker Uniqlo and thinner Mark's is the way to go!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 06/07/2021 19:08

Oh yes mine have gone bobbly too, but I only wear them as 'underware', would be a pain if you wanted to wear as a tshirt. I got my fella some thermal tops from H&M, loose long sleeved fit, and they have not bobbled at all.

lindyloo57 · 06/07/2021 19:17

I like the thicker turtle / polo neck ones which I wear as a top, I do buy new one's every winter. And keep the bobble one's as underwear.

lindyloo57 · 06/07/2021 19:18

Bobbled
