So, I rinsed my hair with coke...

Having seen a Youtube video of it. I didn't think it had done much, but when it was properly dry, it is more wavy/curly/beachy hair. I think I like it. It has to be worth it for me, cos pouring a jug of cold coke on my hair wouldn't be my first choice of hair care, but I suppose I could warm it a bit...anyone else tried it?

Don't think I could be doing with that - isn't your hair all sticky afterwards?

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/07/2021 17:54

I think you can make a sugar solution and use that.

statetrooperstacey · 05/07/2021 17:55

Well sugar water used to be a thing didn’t it and salt spray is a thing so I can see how it could work did you use the full sugar red one ? Have wasps been chasing you ?!

HollowTalk · 05/07/2021 17:56

God help you if there are any wasps or bees or flies around!

I was just thinking that!

sugar water spray for hair

I've not tried it.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 05/07/2021 18:03

Did you rinse it?

TheSpottedZebra · 05/07/2021 18:05

Didn't 70s punks used to hold up their mohicans with sugar and (not much) water?

Try that.

lockef · 05/07/2021 20:30

You can buy sugar spray in the hair care aisle so it's definitely a thing

ElderMillennial · 05/07/2021 20:33

Does your hair feel clean?

Yes. Also KY jelly. It was recommended to me by a hairdresser - there was no gel or similar available then. I didn't know what it was really for until years later.
MouldyPotato · 05/07/2021 21:39

Waste of cola

Bloomsburyreader · 05/07/2021 21:44

It's not the sugar in there thats doing stuff- it's the nasty chemicals that our super strong stomach acid is resistant to but that lovely delicate hair is stripped by. It's like paint thinner to your hair.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/07/2021 08:04

The sugar will definitely make it stiffer and hold the curl but you could do that with dugar water. The acidity would make it shinier but you could do that with lemon juice or vinegar. The chemicals in the Coke you could probably do without.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/07/2021 10:17

Oh right. No, it wasn't too sticky, as the video I watched advised giving it a quick rinse. I normally use some kind of curl creme anyway, so it's never 'squeaky clean'. Probably won't repeat if it's going to be bad for my middle aged hair. I didn't realise the sugar spray was a thing, so thanks everyone. Going to try the vinegar thing soon.

I've tried beer, which does work. It was a good stouty type. I washed it then conditioned and finally put the beer on left for 20min then rinsed it off, it was much shinier and really soft. You maybe dont need to condition but my hair is very curly so i need to, just to get the comb through

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 07/07/2021 11:11

Oh that's interesting. Thanks.

I don't think I could cope with the stickiness. Do you have a photo of the results?

I like my hair after I've been by the beach. It's a little bit curly naturally but after a bit of sea spray it's goes wild with curls. My 2 daughters are the same.

PearlNextDoor · 07/07/2021 11:22

I have curly hair prone to frizz but I've never tried this. I'd also be scared of wasps swarming on my head!

What is it supposed to achieve?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 07/07/2021 12:08

I have posted a pic twice, so I dunno why it hasn't posted.

Rinse curly frizzy hair with cold water last rinse, not nice but helps with frizz. Apply leave in conditioner, childrens one is good if you have soft fluffy hair or if your hair is a stronger texture use normal stuff then add your product. I like superdrugs own mousse extra hold. Trevor sorbie curl cream is good too but can only get online now. I twist mine into ringlets and let dry naturally. Try a silk pillowcase and loosely tie into a pineapple for bed.

Try again, on the right thread (Duh).
