I've massively improved the appearance of my skin these last 6 months ( minor acne and scarring) and now don't require such a heavy foundation. Please can I have your recommendations for the following! I'm 40

Foundation: currently using Estée Lauder double wear as it gave a good coverage. Now I'm finding it too heavy and very matt. It's making me look older.

I'd like something lighter but dewy and not matt that drys powdery. I don't mind paying for higher end brands. It needs to have staying power but give a glow if possible.

Also any mascara recommended? I would like something that is nourishing for lashes and accentuates them but I hate anything thick and clumpy. I'm not after the fake lash look.

And while I'm at it, any cream blushers! I have powder but really not enjoying how powder sits on my face!

Thanks x

Just use Double Wear Light? I use it and it’s fab, sheer coverage but stays on all day. The EL Futurist Hydra is good too, plus you won’t need colour matched x

I love Fenty cream blush.

For mascara I always recommend MAC Extended Play, I find it lengthening, slightly volumising but not much so no clumps, a nice 'fluttery' look. But I don't know if it's any good for nourishing as well.

Mix hour current foundation with your moisturiser, becomes like a CC cream and lighter or if you’re looking to buy something, try it cosmetics cc cream, very light but good coverage for a cc cream.

Maybelline lash sensational is a good mascara or loreal telescopic for lengthing.

Sorry can’t help on a good blush, haven’t found a decent one yet

Like op said, I liked double wear light for good coverage, but you can try mixing it with a tiny drop of daycream to kind of keep it fresher looking (sorry if this is a make up no-no! It just worked for me, no hate please)

Also could it be your make up technique that needs adapting? There's a great youtuber who is about 37/38 (I can find a link, or just put make up 35+ into YouTube) she has taught me loads about using a different application for avoiding make up settling into lines. (My issue, maybe not yours, no offense intended)

I used to love Nars the multiple but now it's just toooooo lustre-y for my current skin tone. Doughy and pallid after this past 18 mths of lockdowns!

*pp, not op!

Have a look at glossier. I'm a recent convert - I thought it was just for young people! - but the cream blusher is very good and I like the mascara too. I've not tried the skin tint foundation (yet! I'm still using up my old tinted moisturiser) but it gets good reviews and sounds like what you're after.

Foundation - Too Faced 'Born This Way' one is lovely. Dewy and light but still very good coverage. I also like the one by The Ordinary ( not the seum one)

For mascara - a pp mentioned it, Maybellibe Lash Sensational is great, also the Sky High one from them is great for giving eyelashes a lift without the spider look!

Cream blushers - Daniel Sandler watercolour blushers are fantastic. I use the colour Cherub. You only need a small amount and the bottle lasts forever!
Also the lip and cheek tint by Milk looks really fresh and natural.

Appletreehat · 05/07/2021 19:28

Ooo one more thing! You can make your own cream blushers using lipstick and a tiny bit of lip balm. Lipstick is so pigmented that you only need a teeny amount, mixed with the tiniest bit of lipbalm, it works well if you want a blushers fix but don't want to spend alot on a blusher.

I recently bought a Mac foundation stick after using Charlotte tilbury air for years. This is fantastic, lighter and great covereage. Perfect shade match. Only it’s been discontinued, couldn’t make it up honestly!!!! I’ve stocked up in the sale.

Soulstirring · 05/07/2021 19:31

But I do recommend it as you’re in the same boat as me. Invested a lot of time in skin and now want to change the cakey foundation.

pigeonpies · 05/07/2021 19:52

Thanks everyone! I do have a few creases on my face these days but they've been there a coupon to years, but like a pp I've invested and made a real effort with my skin this year ( thank you Dermatica!) that I just don't need as much coverage as I thought I used to.

Less is more and all that Wink

Glossier skin tint v light coverage or I have a tarte one for slightly more coverage, glossier, elf or tarte mascara and deffo glossier cloud paint.

Girlintheframe · 06/07/2021 07:54

Mac water weight is very good and buildable.
Bobbi brown Like skin long wear is lovely too. More coverage than the mac but very natural.
For even lighter coverage Bare Minerals complexion rescue is fab.

violetbunny · 06/07/2021 11:25

Base - Chantecaille Just Skin. Lightweight and dewy, but lasts well on the skin (mine is oily so I need something that will last the day). It's marketed as a tinted moisturiser, but it's more like a light coverage foundation. It's undetectable once applied and just looks like you have fresh and radiant skin.

Mascara - I absolutely love the By Terry Lash Expert twist brush mascara. Really doesn't clump, and you twist the brush depending on whether you want to lengthen or add volume.

Blush - I own drawers and drawers of blush, and you can't beat the Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks blush sticks. The formula is just divine, it's not too creamy or dewy, it looks and feels very natural on.

I like these two products used together. Sometimes, just the BFF cream alone.

Just to mention, some of the products already recommended to you are from ranges that test on animals (e.g. Maybelline).

hellohellosailor · 07/07/2021 06:14

How about a CC cream? The Elborian ones seem expensive but a little goes a long way and you can get a travel size for about £16. I had the same issues and it is so light but blurs any imperfections.

AvantGardening · 07/07/2021 06:34

The ordinary foundation is reasonable for the price although I’m still trying to find the holy grail foundation.

Lancôme do the best mascaras in my view. I tend to buy the special Christmas packs with a ‘free’ mini or similar once they go into the January sale.
