Lots of clothes but never know what to wear! Help please

I’ve been trying to go through my wardrobe but I’m stuck. I have so many items of clothing but never seem to be able to quickly put an outfit together that looks nice. I have loads of tops but no bottoms to go with them.

At 47 my shape is changing & many of my previous summer clothes are a little on the tight side. I have strappy tops that are pretty but I never wear as I hate the feel of strapless bras.. is there such a thing as a comfy one?

I feel overwhelmed with all these clothes but nothing to wear because nothing easily goes together! When I’m wfh I just chuck anything on but I want to have some nice outfits for returning to office & just general going out & about.

Any tips please for what to do with what I have and try and make the best of it? Also tips for future purchases as clearly I have made too many impulsive, random buys that don’t work with what I already have! I like to only buy things on sale if I can, but maybe that’s where I’m going wrong..

hi i am from india. .. i think you should wear some loose clothes. you can also wear colorful clothes... what is your favorite color? My favorite color is blue!

Set aside an afternoon to try things on and put together outfits? If you have things that don’t fit, you don’t like, or don’t go with much, get rid of them. Think about how you could make things you do like work - eg, could you wear the vest tops under a blouse or cardigan, for example?

In terms of shopping, I try to think about what an item will go with when I buy it, and I only buy things that make me feel great. No “this will do”! I am also mindful of where I need to spend money - I have a small waist/big bum and hips, so cheap trousers and jeans tend to look crap. I can happily wear cheap t-shirts though.

I always pick out an outfit the night before work (even now I am working from home) and hang it in the bathroom the night before. I am not great in the morning and this saves me from arriving at work (kitchen table currently!) still in my pyjamas.

It is really nice to know about your choice. I appreciate your advice on shopping. It is good to become conscious about spending money. Take care... by the way.. what is your profession? What is your hobby, my dear friend?

@Littlemiss74, it's interesting, because we've been discussing similar on another thread - the mysterious art of wardrobe management.
You shape does change, and it's important to find flattering shapes and styles rather than squeeze into something, or end up being self conscious! Think about your lifestyle and what kind of outfits would best suit. What do you enjoy wearing? As pp has suggested, have a big try on session, be ruthless with anything that doesn't fit or feel good. You deserve better! Think about what kind of trousers and skirts would be most flattering, you can try stuff on in shops now, so that's a bonus!

Dresses and jumpsuits are easy.

Go and do some people watching.
Go and sit in a cafe - a nice cafe not your local greasy spoon.
If it’s a nice day people watch and get some ideas - this is one of my most favourite thing to do
Go to Pinterest.
Go shopping with the idea of trying things on - not buying
Take every thing out of wardrobe and put bed then try everything on - put everything that doesn’t fit but is on good condition to charity shop.
If it is in poor condition take recycling
When the pile is smaller look at what you have - you have identified lots tops so make a list bottoms you need and go shopping!
Think about what you buy and buy intentionally and better quality
Have fun! Clothes are a way to express yourself!

Have a look at minimal mom wardrobe videos on you tube - that was my starting point. So you work out what you need and then pick you favourites, put the rest in 'quarantine' and buy extra to fill the gaps.

I also gave up sales shopping this year. It's been a revelation.
