How do I stop my hair from doing this?

My hair curls up at the ends. I know I need to get it cut but even at a shorter length it curls up which makes me not want to cut it as I won't be able to tie it back.
My hair is thick and heavy so not sure if that is the problem. I use to have short hair and it didn't curl up then but I want to have it longer now to cover a scar (which I can't do at the moment as its tied back!)

Blow dry with a round brush then blast with cool air.

66babe · 01/07/2021 20:45

And then run through once with straighteners ...

Nimo12 · 01/07/2021 20:45

I think it looks so cute! This might be a silly question but can you not just use straighteners?

Tried that but it curls up after an hour or so, same with straightening.

You need to get it cut by someone who will cut it so that it behaves the way you want it to.

Your hair looks nice in the photos.

Straighteners only keep it straight for about an hour.

Grow it longer so it weighs it down more.

I'm worried it might look like Gail Platt's hair the longer it gets 😂

My hair has a tendency to flick out too - although mine doesn't look as pretty as yours! I would recommend a really good cut, then blow drying with a round brush, running the hair straighteners over it and then fixing with an anti-humidity spray - mine is definitely worse in damp/humid weather. Alternatively embrace the wave - get yourself a curl boost product and scrunch it up as your blow drying it rather than brushing it out - I bet that would look lovely!

Twickerhun · 01/07/2021 21:01

Mine looks the same when short. Growing it helped

MsChatterbox · 01/07/2021 21:19

Mine did the same at that length. Just where it sits on the top of the back or shoulders... When longer it doesn't

backtonormalonedaysoon · 01/07/2021 21:22

Get it messy layered and make the most of it

Louvreloo · 01/07/2021 21:22

Mine does that when the hairdresser puts layers into it. No layers means it sits flat, I just have a bit of face framing instead now.

LunaNorth · 01/07/2021 21:24

Mine does that. I’m having it all cut off on Saturday. Sick of fighting it.

Frazzledd · 01/07/2021 21:26

What straighteners are you using? I've really long, curly hair- used Ghds for years, wonders!

I use a hair serum/ heat protect spray after shampoo and conditioner, then section my hair, straightening the underneath, then middle, then top, then a shine spray. My hair stays straight until next wash!

Fwiw I think your hair looks lovely tho!

Pogostemon · 01/07/2021 21:27

Don’t know how you stop it, but straight hair that curls at the ends is a sure-fire sign of a witch.

I use Ghds but don't section my hair into three just two top and underneath so maybe I am straightening too much hair at a time.

This it how it looks without any straightening

What about abandoning trying to make it straight and use your GHDs to do loose curls/waves instead?

EllaBlaire · 02/07/2021 08:50

P.s. if you do want it to appear straight, don’t make the underneath layers straight; you need to curl them under with the straighteners

Pikachusbutt · 02/07/2021 08:57

First off it is the length of your hair. Hair that sits on the shoulders flicks up. You either need to cut it so there's a good inch or two between your hair and shoulders or grow it so it's longer than your shoulders.

As for straighteners not working on your hair, you're not doing it properly. Mine is much curlier than yours and I can get it poker straight that stays for days. How old are your GHDs? Are they hot enough? You need to make sure your hair is bone dry before straightening. Don't use anything like serums that Will make your hair greasy. I use a heat protection spray. Then do it in sections. Once it's straightened, blast it with the hairdryer to make sure it is 100% dry. Then don't put anything on it afterwards.

MiddleParking · 02/07/2021 09:06

Three layers is a must, mine would be a riot if I tried to do it in two, and yes you need to point it under to get it straight. Your curls are lovely though!

SingingInTheShithouse · 02/07/2021 09:18

My hair has become really curly (& a different colour) in more recent years (hormones can do some weird shitConfused)

I agree longer gives more weight, so helps weigh the curls out IYSWIM

I have found the PurePlex hair repair system stuff, when blow dried straight after treatment, really help keep it straight for quite a while til next treatment
