Anyone done Wool& 100 day dress challenge?

Toomanypickles · 30/06/2021 19:05

Please no flaming! I am not thinking of wearing the same dress for 100 days mainly due to having a young family, just trying to buy less but buy better.

My idea is to slowly rotate in neutralish flexible items which will already work with the low-key approach I already take for practical reasons.

Just wondering if anyone has bought their stuff? And thoughts if so?

So you wear the same dress for 100 days without washing it?

ilovecherries · 30/06/2021 23:07

Someone added me to the FB group, they are a little evangelical about it, although it seems a very kind supportive group. I don’t actually like the dresses though.

Imissmoominmama · 30/06/2021 23:09

I was talking about this tonight- do you have a link?

Merino doesn’t smell if you hang it up to air between wears- it’s magical stuff!

FreezerBird · 30/06/2021 23:12

There was a piece in the Guardian about this recently.

Sounds amazing but I'd want to wait for autumn if I was doing the 100 day challenge I think.

It would be fun - I have looked at it.
The dresses are plain and unadorned enough so that you could change with scarves/belts/tights/shoes and completely change the look.
The Facebook group looks fantastic!

JaneJeffer · 01/07/2021 01:03

I couldn't do it. Why can't you wash the dress - apart from the fact you would have to hang out in your undies until it was dry?

grownup2 · 01/07/2021 02:13

I'm wearing the Willow.

Got it from the US store and for some reason wasn't charged for Vat on delivery. There is an EU store for easier returns but it has limited stock. The XL fits me perfectly at UK size 16 and busty. It is beautifully made and soft on the skin. I'm comfy in most temperatures in it. I'll wash it gently after a few more wears if it gets grubby but so far it looks and smells fresh after 5 or 6 wears. I wear it with jeggings as I'm a bit too mature for bare knees. I'd recommend to people who are OK with the minimal laundering concept.

I don't think there's anything to say you can't wash it (unless I've missed that), just that you shouldn't need to because of the qualities of merino.

That then means you can spot clean when necessary and only wash it occasionally, which is environmentally so much better.

Also merino dries really quickly I think so a quick wash in the evening and it would be ready for the next day.

This is fascinating!

ShowMeHow · 01/07/2021 10:45

It’s an interesting Facebook group and challenge. If you can prove you did it I think they give you a hefty discount off your next dress.

They do all sorts, dress them up, dye them, cut the sleeves off/ add some on, wear backwards, add pockets …. sleep in them!

Washing them is allowed 🙏

Ninkanink · 01/07/2021 11:02

I’d be up for trying it. Going to keep an eye out for stock replenishment and then I might give it a go throughout winter. I’d happily wear it, change into lounge wear/pyjamas after dinner, hang it out and wear again. Wash every so often. I love the sustainability aspect, and I also love the simplicity aspect - I already maintain a fairly strict capsule wardrobe and this would fit right in.

Toomanypickles · 01/07/2021 17:43

As above just to clarify, I wouldn't be doing the 100 days (toddler, sticky hands, crafts, muddy buggy etc etc) but I like the dresses and the more minimal approach to wardrobe so I'd just be adding it in to my other items. Just interested if others have a Wool& because it's an investment in terms of initial outlay, but worthwhile to reduce other purchases which are shorter lived.

In my single 20s it would have been pretty straightforward to do the challenge, or at some later stage when less messy parenting.

Thanks to all

I used to do this when younger. Simple black dress, natural materials, hang it in the airing cupboard overnight and it was as good as new. In Asia it is customary not to wash ‘main’ clothes so often - so natural materials and things to wear underneath are a must so they don’t stink.

LunaTheCat · 02/07/2021 10:11

As far as washing I wear merino wool all the time ( although not from this company) . It is usually very washable - wash at night and sip and will be dry by the morning- no ironing needed!

Toomanypickles · 03/07/2021 12:44

Thanks ozjani and Luna, I am going to do it!

Just trying to step off the ruthless treadmill of consumption and unethical tat. (One dress at a time Smile )

Yes I’m going to do it too. Looking forward to it! Will have to wait on buying though as i overspent this month (again!). Seems a great idea over the winter months.

moimichme · 03/07/2021 19:14

I'm on a (kind of) no-buy this year clothing -wise, but if I find something of suitable quality in a charity shop I'd like to try something like this. I have pared down my wardrobe after pregnancy, but still want to do better.

katplva · 03/07/2021 21:44

I can see how this kind of dress could be worn loads of ways - change up the belt/scarf/tights/leggings/necklace combinations and so it could be a good investment. Many colours and sizes from wool& seem to be sold out though.

Are you doing the challenge? I have just bought mine and going to give it a go!
StormyTeacups · 01/11/2021 07:25

I've seen this a few times over the years, there was a lady on Insta who did it with a dress from Thought.

Purplewithred · 01/11/2021 07:29

I have one and considered the challenge to get another but decided I didn’t need a second one anyway.

the one I have - a blue Rowan I think - the merino is finer, lighter and less warm than I expected but it hangs beautifully and looks surprisingly good with a belt as well as loose.

People do wash them in the challenge and they dry very quickly overnight (you also get 5 days off across the time I think). I found the facebook page a bit suffocating - and frankly some of the dresses and ways they were worn were really unflattering - but clearly some found it all very supportive.
