Suggestions please for make up that will not slide off my hot, humid, perimenopausal face!

Feeling a bit gutted today as I wore my new Bobbi Brown make up for the first time; nude tinted moisturiser and the nude finish illuminating powder. These were a treat to myself with some birthday vouchers. I had an online tutorial with a BB make up artist & these were 2 of the recommended products.
Wore them both today & I don’t think I like them. When I popped out of work at lunch to the shops my face looked like an oil slick & very shiny with a slight shimmer, which of course is probably down to the powder (he assured me it would make me glow but not shine like a beacon)!

I can feel it all sat in my skin, it just feels so greasy, like it’s sliding around. I am 46 & perimenopausal so perhaps this is partly to blame for my face feeling warm & sweaty but the humid weather doesn’t help either.

Can anyone suggest what sort of face make up would be good for me now? I thought my skin was on the dry side but this is now the other extreme!
Also, can anyone cheer me up by giving me hope that BB might let me return/exchange these very expensive mistakes? I’ve heard such great things about their ‘natural’ look, I have to say I’m very disappointed & gutted at wasting my vouchers as I don’t often get to treat myself.

Try a matt primer.

I am also a fan of Estée Lauder double wear - nothing shifts that stuff.

As for ‘the shine’ - there are loads of products out there but I am still faithful to No7 translucent powder. It seems to absorb the shine/grease.

I wouldn’t try all these things together but mix and match with what you have got to find a combination that suits you.

I have a grease pot face and the only make up that doesn't slide off or get oily is Mac's Pro Longwear Nourishing waterproof foundation. You only need a wee bit so it lasts ages, and it comes off easily with make up remover. It's very light and never feels heavy. It can stick to dry patches so a light matte moisturiser if your skin is very dry.

If you want to get some mileage of your Bobby Brown make up, try a oil control primer like this

OR

an oil control powder. This one is fab

EL Double wear

todaysdilemma · 28/06/2021 23:58

I would definitely contact Bobby Brown customer services and explain why the MUA recommendations didn't work - they might refund you! Worth a shot.

Ellllle · 29/06/2021 00:41

Was the tutorial through BB online? If so, I would contact them, as it doesnt sound suited to your skin at all.

Imtoooldforallthis · 29/06/2021 06:35

Try the ordinary serum foundation, one pumb buffed into the skin and then a light dusting of mineral powder.

Belliphat · 29/06/2021 06:44

Double wear light - I am grease but it stays there. I powder on top half way through after a blot.

Belliphat · 29/06/2021 06:45

Through the day not application.

I have just bought Trinny of London BFF. I live in a very hot climate and it hasnt been an issue with the heat, I'm also 53 and it makes my skin look amazing. Definitely worth the £42 for a smallish tube .

PeonyTime · 29/06/2021 06:50

Try a makeup fixing spray.
I dont wear makeup, but everyone in the gulf used to swear by it to hold makeup in place in 45C+ humid summers.

Littlemiss74 · 29/06/2021 21:40

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I have to say I don’t really know what it is I’m after anymore. My skin is not bad but I look tired & just want to look a bit healthier and skintone evened out a bit but without heavy obvious make up. That’s why I went for a tinted moisturiser but now I think it just makes me look too shiny. Or maybe it would be ok with a bit of normal powder rather than the illuminating powder. Yes the tutorIal was with BB make up artist booked via their website. I think I will email them and see if I can return or exchange.

@Belliphat is the doublewear light quite a full coverage? Does it give a matt finish?

@bert3400 that sounds amazing although I’m now worried about making another expensive mistake!

@todaysdilemma I’ve never tried anything from Mac but I do like the look of that powder. Do you use this? I wonder which shade I would need. I have olivey skin tone.

I would recommend the ordinary Vit C powder and some direct acids for your skin tone

Garby · 29/06/2021 22:19

I read an article stating that all Australian women swear by primer as it stops makeup sliding off in the extreme heat of their summers.

todaysdilemma · 30/06/2021 16:56

@Littlemiss74

for the Mac powder I use medium as I too have olivey skin. However, it goes on top of any base layer so just blends in quite well!

WhereAreWeNow · 30/06/2021 21:01

How annoying OP. I'd try a mattifying powder before giving up on the tinted moisturiser. I'd also try contacting Bobbi Brown about an exchange/refund.

EL Double Wear Light is nice. It stays put but isn't as full cover/mask like as the normal Double Wear.

I'm greasy and tend to wear tinted moisturiser in the summer too but I use a mattifying powder (currently just a cheap Maybelline one - does the trick) and I use blotting sheets during the day to mop up the shine.

I’ve just bought Urban Decay Glow setting spray, and it’s truly amazing! I have combination sensitive skin, and this genuinely makes a difference.
