My beard, should I I try derma planing?

I'm 50 and have would have a full beard and moustache if I let my facial hair grow. For the past few years I've been using a facial epilator but it's not working for me any more, it misses too many of the hairs and it's making me really self conscious.

Will dermaplaning only make it worse?

I don't know but I've been shaving daily for years. Weep.

(I have a deal with my best friend that if I'm ever incapacitated she will do the honours...)

Nope, I tried it. Worked well on upper lip and they didn’t get come back any thicker. However, the beard hair comes back really thick and coarse. I’ve gone back to epilating every few days. You could always try it and see what the hair growth is like and go back to epilating??

Dermaplaning is good for the fine peach fuzz hair but I still use my epilator on my chin!

It's a braun silk epil 9' and I just use the standard leg head not a special facial epilator.

Thank you, sounds like it's not going to work for me then.

Good idea to try a normal epilator instead of the facial one, why hadn't I thought of that. I think there's too much hair and the facial one can't cope.

I honestly dread being laid up in hospital or being so old I cant tackle the beard and tash myself. It's horrible

Have you looked at IPL? I have a Philips Lumea and it's really good for my facial hair.

Have you considered electrolysis? It’s pricey and it hurts but it’s permanent.

Dermaplaning works okay for me as a temporary measure (I have PCOS and some really thick dark hairs on my chin and neck) but I have to do it every morning and I still have little dark spots by mid-afternoon. I've invested in a Philips Lumea for the long-term.

StormyLovesOdd · 28/06/2021 14:52

Thanks everyone.

I don't think IPL would work for me as a good percentage of the hair is white. Tried electrolysis before and it didn't seem to work either.

Im tempted just to shave it off but I know it's probably only make it worse Confused

Electrolysis definitely works if done properly with a needle by a specialist. The home versions are useless. You may have just been growing new hairs so it appeared to make no difference.
