Does anyone know of any solution for teeth affected by age related enamel loss ? I don't think I have stains or anything but definetly yellowing which I gather is age related
Anyone addressed this successfully ? Thank you in advance

I'm not sure regarding anything specifically age related but I swear by Crest Whitening strips and always have. I used to pick them up in America because they were like gold dust over here, but you can buy them online now quite easily.

66babe · 27/06/2021 19:00

Thank you @surprisi I've tried some of those ( maybe not those exact ones ) and found they made no difference .. probably better for stained younger teeth?

You need actual Crest White strips, not the ones they sell in Boots etc.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 27/06/2021 19:05

I spent 200 quid on having impressions made which are then filled with whitening stuff. You can get refills from the dentist ant time. They really work and my teeth are much whiter. I'm 60 years old.

SoddingWeddings · 27/06/2021 19:05

Enamel loss can't be treated, and the yellowing associated with this is the tint of the dentine underneath showing through. My teeth are dreadful after years of multiple issues and the dentine on all mine is dreadfully exposed.

Other than capping the teeth, there isn't anything that stops the yellow being visible.

I did the same. Worked really well.

I subsequently purchased the solution online - much cheaper.

My dentist says you can just top up from time to time when they start to look dingy again (too much red wine and tea in my case).

How depressing 😩 I don't want tipex teeth but would like them a bit nicer
I had a dentist offer me to do the moulds and paste to do at home for £300 .. then Covid hit
When I had my first appointment about 3 weeks ago she had left and now I've got a new dentist who said " no point you spending money like that as it's age related enamel loss making them yellow and no bleach will touch them " difficult to accept 2 professionals and then a 60 year old saying it worked for her .. think I need to come to your dentist !

@Shehasadiamondinthesky did your dentist discuss this with you at all ? I'm slightly younger only just

I'd pay that if I thought it would help

you could have bonding done over the teeth....cheaper and less invasive than crowns...they can match tooth colour etc i had it done and its lasted years...also Zaberry strips are excellent...ebay has them.

mineofuselessinformation · 27/06/2021 19:16

I have enamel loss.
I had my teeth whitened three years ago, and the difference was amazing!
They've slipped back since, and by sheer coincidence I've ordered a kit today.
I would go for a professional one in the first instance.

66babe · 27/06/2021 19:16

Oh I am off to Google tooth bonding ! Never heard of that .. thank you

OP posts:
huuuuunnnndderrricks · 29/06/2021 22:16

I had it done at the dentist , was £300.. best money spent ever !

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 29/06/2021 22:17

Mine were yellow from enamel loss and are now White like Ross from friends 🤣.. also composite bonding is around £200 per tooth .

TheArtfulCodger · 29/06/2021 22:21

If your birth date is 66, then I'm older than you and have had very successful laser whitening and I've used used Crest Strips over the last 8 years. My teeth are great!

Windmeneckin · 30/06/2021 00:35

Mine were really yellowed by an antibiotic called Tetracycline which I had as a child (it is no longer given to children). I bought 'Teeth Whitening/Bleaching dental trays with reservoirs(DIY) kit' from Amazon, took an impression using the kit and trays arrived a week later. For two weeks before bleaching I used Enlighten tooth repair serum to brush my teeth and you can feel the surface of your teeth improve. I bought 16% Carbamide Peroxide syringes online from a trusted supplier. I slept with the gelled trays in - don't overload them with it, you don't need to and make sure you use the tooth repair for two weeks before and during the process. Even after a couple of nights I could see an improvement, I think I wore them for about ten in total and had no problems with sensitivity or anything else. You shouldn't drink tea, coffee or red wine during this period although if you get desperate use a straw to. The 16% Carbamide Peroxide is what some dentists use and so is the Enlighten tooth serum. The trays cost £69.99, the serum £11.99 and the Carbamide Peroxide cost £59.99 for three. It really worked for me and my teeth look so much better and I am far from young. Total cost less than £150! Much cheaper than a dentist who I think quoted over £500

66babe · 30/06/2021 07:31

Thank you all so much ....
Jeeeez no I cannot spend 200 on one tooth 😤😤😤😤
The moulds and gel option is probably what I was hope would work for my old knashers
But getting the percentages and the correct kit is what I needed
So a massive thank you !
I've actually booked a free consultation ( which isn't until August anyway) to discuss options at a cosmetic dentist but no way will I be lulled by a pretty smile picture at £200 per tooth 🤭

@huuuuunnnndderrricks was that £300 in total ? Did you have bonding or bleaching ?

OP posts:
huuuuunnnndderrricks · 30/06/2021 07:40

£300 for bleaching the whole mouth and they are such a different colour !! I'm 46 amd they are amazing ( to be fair my teeth were very straight before just yellow ) the bonding was perfect tooth but I was only going to have my front two done not all of them as they were the worst amd much more yellow than the others .. the dentist talked me out of it though as they was such a difference .

66babe · 30/06/2021 07:51

Can you drink tea and coffee after bleaching or is that a big no no ? I could live without if I had to I think

OP posts:
huuuuunnnndderrricks · 30/06/2021 08:42

I didn't drink them in the 2 weeks I was bleaching but I do now . I rinse my mouth out where possible and drink through a straw when having coke but they are still white .

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 30/06/2021 08:42

You can also do top ups for about £25

Fferny1 · 30/06/2021 09:06

Can anyone recommend a trusted supplier? There's some dodgy ones out there.

Fferny1 · 30/06/2021 09:07

My dentist charges £80.00 a syringe.

66babe · 30/06/2021 09:19

I've also heard there are some well dodgy suppliers out there
I think that's how the dentists get away with extortionate prices - they know we trust them -
