How to look better

tonyharrisonboosh · 27/06/2021 17:36

I'm 37 and feeling thoroughly fed up with how tired and old I look.

I know there isn't a magic wand that will transform me into a perky twenty something but can anyone share what they have done to make a positive difference to the way they look and feel?

Being outdoors and walking a lot and not going to bed late.

MsAnnFrope · 27/06/2021 19:28

@ChiefInspectorParker oh I love to swim in the sea. We are in a crazy high Covid zone so I’m not able to travel but when I can that’s my first plan.

tonyharrisonboosh · 27/06/2021 19:28

Wow thanks so much for your tips.

I definitely need to lose weight and do more exercise. Teeth whitening is also on my list.

I'm really hopeful with all these recommendations!
@Toilenstripes yes I did, sorry!

I overdid the plucking in the early '90s and had barely anything left, plus the gap in between them was massively lopsided. When the new shape was drawn on the difference was jawdropping and I swear even my skin looks better.

I'll also add that getting new glasses this last week has really cheered me up Smile.
I’m a 90s eyebrow victim as well! Will definitely look into microblading.

I use the gym (when I can), walk and run. It really doesn’t matter what you do. If it’s something you enjoy you’re more likely to make it a long term habit. You might swim (which I hate), you might do group classes at a gym, you might have an exercise bike in your garage or do a fitness dvd in your living room. Personally, I’m a fan of planks and lots of other exercises that use your body weight as resistance and just need you and a mat.

I found this from a quick google. I have never deliberately bear crawled except when retrieving the dog’s toys from under the sofa

Botox isn’t drastic. Honestly, it’s just a bit of maintenance. I have it twice a year plus fillers in the vertical lines in my top lip. I have zero lines in my forehead and around my eyes and I’m 41. Before Botox I looked absolutely haggard.

mynameiscalypso · 27/06/2021 20:02

I'm exactly the same age OP and feel the same way. I definitely need to lose a bit of weight but I also need to work out what clothes suit me. You'd have thought at 37 that I'd have figured this out but I'm just totally lost and in no man's land at the moment.

Doghead · 28/06/2021 07:08

Exercise, lots of water, and look after your skin and hair. Make the effort every day to do you hair and dress nicely (don't just chuck any old thing on). Take a good multivitamin.
It really doesn't take much. You are just as important as anyone else, so allow yourself a little time to look after yourself.

This too! I'm 50, and have great skin....not many lines except for my forehead and 11s (always used a good rich moisturiser overnight.....astral). Botox twice a year makes such a difference and makes me look so rested and alive.

Weight/exercise as others have said

Wear proper clothes, do a face and style your hair. Every day, even if not going anywhere. That above all other things makes me feel better and I really believe if you feel good you look good - something radiates from you that is positive and uplifted

Hop27 · 28/06/2021 07:31

Exercise 5 - 6 days per week, get fit, really fit.
Don't carry a lot or excess weight.
Hairdresser every 8-12 weeks (use good shampoo/conditioner)
Invest in quality clothing, that fits well - get rid of anything tired or shabby.
Good skin care, regular facials/peels.
SLEEP.
Drink all the water.
Manicure and pedicure every 3 weeks.
Botox and filler. (Get a recommendation from someone who doesn't look like they get work
done) I'm 40, started botox at 35 before there were any really deep lines.
Whiten your teeth.
Always make an effort, even when you don't want to.

doorornottodoor · 28/06/2021 07:32

Dewy foundation not matt. I look younger the less makeup I wear.

Salanda · 28/06/2021 09:01

I think if you’re healthy and happy you’ll always look good.

So exercise, eating well, not drinking too much (but I wouldn’t say not at all - important to be able to enjoy yourself), look after your hair and teeth - healthy clean teeth and well looked after hair always look great. Look after your skin. And then treat yourself well - get plenty of sleep, make time to do little things like paint your nails, read a book, have a bath. Deal with stress in your life if you can.

Those are the main things for me. Then after that - if you have money - things like facials, clothes, Botox/fillers if you’re into that.

@mynameiscalypso I’m nearly 42 and I feel like that. I’ve got another thread about my conflict with my body as it is currently overweight.
I feel like I used to know exactly what I suited. Now who knows?

I read your thread too and could absolutely relate - I'm a similar size (and have a heft dose of body dysmorphia) and it's so hard isn't it? One day I think I maybe look okay and the next time I wear the same thing, I look like rubbish!
