Interview outfit advice please.

Advice gratefully received... I have an interview for a promotion. There are external candidates I am in competition with, so I need to present myself as very senior even though the people interviewing me have known me for years. I am currently middle management and tend to wear smart but not fitted dresses. I always look presentable and reliable/professional/discreet. Never make myself the star of the show. Usually wear black or grey.

So for this interview I think maybe I should go for some sort of new haircut, heels and a fitted dress with suit jacket. Maybe a dark green which will suit my complexion but be something that they haven't previously seen me wear. Just want to be seen with a fresh attitude.

I'm size 12-14, v neck suits me better than high necks. Am trawling ebay for something preloved that would be expensive but I can afford.

What brands would you recommend? I am thinking Reiss? Or Hobbs? Any idea what the sizing comes up like?

TIA for any help.

You know them, they know you - I think you're overthinking!

Have you tried The Fold?

MoiraNotRuby · 27/06/2021 13:20

Yes I'm definitely over thinking! But still need an outfit. Although they know me, I'm not sure they LIKE me so I do need them to see me differently than the everyday me.

Thanks for the fold suggestion, they look great. Do you know how their sizing comes up please? As I'm going to buy 2nd hand I won't be able to order 2 sizes and send one back.

I'm afraid I don't know about sizing, as I've never bought from there. Just admire it from afar Smile

There's bound to be an old thread on here though.

MoiraNotRuby · 27/06/2021 17:32

Thanks! It looks really decent but I think my boobs are a bit too big for it. However searching for posts about them did throw up some other brands I had forgotten so I have plenty to search for.

Maybe do a Carrie Johnson and hire something? At least then you could try them on before committing?

I know you've mentioned buying second hand, but John Lewis have their sale on ATM, with some good bargains.
Take a look at
Jolie Moi V neck pencil dress £39
Jolie Moi Geo print flare hem £49
Damsel in a Dress TULIA shirt dress £65
Monsoon Scallop V neck pleated dress £42

They've got quite a wide range in green, and of course you'd have the option to return any you didn't like.
Lots of luck with your interview!

I do think secondhand, although sometimes great, can be a false economy. I'd probably look in the sales for something lovely but affordable. I appreciate it's more sustainable to buy secondhand, but since it's for an important interview. Unless it's at a sustainability charity or something! In which case buy secondhand and tell them all about it Grin

If they know you already I'd just wear a polished version of what you usually wear. Invest in a new top or a jacket but I wouldn't buy an entire new outfit.
