Please help a complete hopeless case add waves to straightened hair

I don't really have a clue what I'm doing. I have horrible frizzy hair and have relied for years on my straighteners to look halfway decent. The problem is that my hair is quite thin so it looks really flat on top, and I don't really like the poker straight look anyway- but I don't know what else to do! How can I gently and easily add some wave/ curl/ body into my hair after I've straightened it- or is there some way I could ditch the straighteners altogether?! I have zero coordination so it needs to be basic.

Have you tried a revlon one step volumiser for a smooth volumised bouncy blow dry?

I'm useless with straightners and wand etc but use my revlon everyday for a bouncy blow dry. Not curls but smooth and body- loads of videos on you tube and loads of threads on here. (There are some videos that show curls but I don't think my hair is long enough)

It really is as easy as brushing your hair. (Well almost) it takes me 15 minutes and I usually watch a video when I'm doing it! I have fine hair too.

I use the revlon one too and thoroughly recommend. It’s great

SirenSays · 26/06/2021 21:35

I have a revlon waver but tbh it's heavy and a bit awkward to use. Now when my hair is still hot from the straightener I twist my hair into a tight bun. By the time I'm dressed and make up is done I can take my hair out and it falls in soft waves. A quick spritz with hairspray and its done. Looks better than a professional blow out.
Also, for frizzy hair I really recommend a leave in conditioner, Aussieway do a cheap and cheerful one.

For thin hair you want to straighten only the tops of your hair really so you still have some body underneath without it going flat. Also straighten your fringe the opposite way and let it fall back to its natural place after.

Diva pro curler is an auto curler which is amazing you could do your hair and have bouncy curls for days, just comb or finger brush them out for less of a perm look and gently spray with fine hair spray.

You can do pin curls with hair grips and just rolling your hair when nearly dry into little circles and pin to your head after an hour or so will be ready to take out.

Blow dry your hair upside down before straightening it to give maximum root boost

But you probably also need a deep conditioning mask from a good brand like redken, Morocan oil. And do it once a week to help with the frizz x

Dyson air wrap. I have fine straight hair and I can have straight but not poker straight, volume, beach waves. It’s brilliant.

Flamingo49 · 26/06/2021 22:09

Oh both of these options look great, thank you! With the Revlon one do you have to use it on wet hair or can you use it on dry?

Revlon one step is used on on wet or Damp hair after washing for a blow dry although I have used it to touch up just need to dampen with either water or heat protectant spray.

Flamingo49 · 26/06/2021 23:01

Oh sorry I didn't see all the other replies! @SirenSays is yours the same as the Revlon volumiser the other posters mentioned?
@halfwaythrough2 the diva autocurler looks amazing!

Could you look at the curly girl method of hair care and embrace your natural waves by eliminating the frizz

SirenSays · 27/06/2021 10:31

@Flamingo49 No, I'll link the one I have. It makes really nice waves but I struggle to do the back as its so bulky.

@StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes I don't know it but will have a look, thanks.

Have ended up going down an internet rabbit hole of the millions of options there and am feeling a bit overwhelmed! I think I might get the original Revlon recommendation for a sleek but not poker straight blow dry, and then one of the curl options- just not sure which one as I've also seen the babyliss curl secret which looks good? I think the Dyson one is well above my budget!

The curl secret is amazing, i have one and although my hair is too short now i loved it when it was longer, the curls lasted days!

WhereDidIGoNext · 27/06/2021 12:28

It’s hard to get waves into hair that’s been straightened, it’s like telling the hair to do one thing then changing your mind. Better to be able to blow dry it and then curl rather than straighten and then curl

SirenSays · 27/06/2021 13:00

I have the curl secret but don't use it anymore as my hair is way too long for the barrel now. If your hair is longer than shoulder length I wouldn't recommend.
If your hair is shorter you can get beautiful results but it can be a bit fiddly. Small sections are the way to go. Don't panic if it tangles, gently unwind hair back out and try again.
