Tretinoin Reaction

NebulaStorm · 25/06/2021 13:36

I have had 2 months of 0.015 % and 2 months of 0.025% with no reaction. Just started 0.05% and have slight peeling and very tiny whiteheads appearing. Would it be best to apply every other night? I was hoping I would avoid any reaction flowing the last 4 months.

My pores look really clogged too! They look worse when I thought my skin was getting better.

I don't know anything about the numbers but I read someone on here had some of their weaker one left so they alternated the weak/strong ones while they got used to it.

ScribblyBaller · 25/06/2021 14:32

I've been using 0.05 strength for a few years now and can still get a little peeling from time to time, so just apply on alternate nights. I like only using it every other day as it means I get to apply all the lovely unctuous creams on the other nights.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/06/2021 14:40

I think if you are reacting to it you can "buffer it" by using something underneath, maybe try over your moisturiser and see how that goes?

justchecking1 · 25/06/2021 16:56

Just out of interest, did you get the Tretinoin on private prescription? If so, where from please?

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/06/2021 17:45

I would probably seek advice from whoever prescribed it (if someone did).

If that isn't possible I would 'buffer' it with a decent plain oil free moisturiser (nothing with active ingredients), apply it very lightly and/or alternate days for a while in hopes of building up a tolerance. If it's sore or burning I would stop until that subsides and then 'start' again with buffering.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 25/06/2021 17:49

Are you applying daily? I thought every time you upped your tret concentration you were supposed to go back to every 3 nights and build up again. Also, 4 months isn't a particularly long time to go from 0.015 to 0.05. Have you been prescribed it?

From Dermatica. I like them. My melasma has decreased a lot so now I'm focusing on anti aging.

I'll trying buffering thanks.

Are you using it every night? That's too much. Every second or third night is enough to get all the benefits. I worked my way up to every night but it was a mistake. Over time my skin went shiny and sensitive. Even the pillowcase felt rough against it. I'm back down to every third night now and it's much better. It also allows you to use other products on the off nights

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 25/06/2021 18:40

If you are paying 23 quid a month for Dermatica, then a large chunk of what you are paying for is the expert advice from them, as you can buy tretinoin elsewhere for much cheaper.

So it would be best to contact them and ask for their advice as to what to do, get your money's worth! I am surprised that they gave you 0.05 with no instructions to build up slowly going from 0.025.

I realise this post comes across shittier than I meant it to - but as someone who buys their tretinoin from a Spanish pharmacy and then relies on Facebook and youtube for advice on how to use it Grin I feel like Dermatica/Skin and Me users should get their value for money!

They will give you a personal consultation with advice any time you want one, you just have to ask them and provide photos.

Am I right in believing you're not meant to use wax strips on your face if you use Tretinoin? I had two days off, waxed between my eye brows and its red raw and stinging. One article says ive pulled off a layer of skin. I've put sudocream on it multiple times but I think it's going crusty.

Try Avene Cicalfate. I use it after dermaplaning and can get back on the tret the next day. It is very soothing and gets rid of all redness.
