Please help me improve my hair - Curly Girl method?

The frizzy photo is the day after I washed my hair, the other photos are when my hair needs washing. Would CG work for me? Could I have actual curls rather than frizz?

I already wash only with conditioner, using shampoo about once a month, and blot dry with a smooth travel towel.

I want to try CG, but the problem is that I'm allergic to fragrances. I use Waitrose Pure conditioner and shampoo, because they are the only ones that don't turn my hair into a mess of sticky straw. (Just a mess!)

I cannot find any suggestions for fragrance-free products suitable for CG. I'm in the UK.

I think I might just grow it Silver. It's interesting me to see what it looks like and how much the curl will stay in as it gets longer. It's quite thick and I spend years straightening the bloody thing!

What I really like at the moment is the fact that I just wash it or wet it and leave it alone - and I suspect if I grow it out like yours I'd need to diffuse or something. I could see me going off to work with wet hair that dripped around my shoulders all day if I grow it. I have got rid of my hair dryer!

Your curls are gorgeous and making me think it might be worth it!

It is gorgeous, isn't it? I'm v Envy

Do you use product? After washing! ? This is vital for definition . I've had curly hair all my life and it's a ball of frizz without product!

Thanks. It is a faff before work, so I'm thinking of going a bit shorter.

I agree that product is key and if I could only pick one, it would be gel.

I’m 35 and it took me about 31 years to get my frizz under control and I live by the water! First you need to check ingredients and look for key ones like collagen silk biotin castor oil. They help keep your hair healthy. I always switch up my shampoo and conditioner as long as it has my fave ingredients. You should wash your hair at least once a week and condition every other day. You usually arent suppose to brush curls except in shower when conditioning, use a wide comb to evenly distribute and saturate every strand. If you have dry hair, don’t ring out every drop you can. Leave your hair a little extra wet and wrap in a towel with Jon Freida dream curls or a light conditioning serum for curls. You can use a diffuser or let dry in towel adding as much product you feel along the way. When going you sleep, you can try wrapping your hair in a head wrap towel.

Haven’t read through the whole thread so not sure if it’s been recommended yet but the website curlscan has an advanced search function so you can look for things that do or don’t have certain ingredients

Faith in nature do a fragrance free conditioner

Silverparting · 01/07/2021 10:40

Faith in Nature products are excellent. I have the (fragranced) shampoo and conditioner for when I use them and both are CGM 'approved'.

Dilbertian · 02/07/2021 16:35

Well I've gone and bought a couple of Jessicurl styling products. As I already co-wash, use an almost CG-compatible shampoo, and never use any styling products, that seemed to be the obvious place to start making changes. But the price! It's exactly 5 times as much as my normal haircare stuff costs. It might be cheaper to install a mini-fridge in the bathroom and use natural products Grin

My Jessiecurl products have arrived! I washed my hair this morning (just conditioner, no shampoo). The products say to use in soaking wet hair. Can I just wet my hair and apply them, or do I have to wash again?

You don't need to wash again. Just make sure your hair is soaking wet, as this works for me, squishing in product to well watered hair so the hair can absorb product.
If you use a leave in masque then I pop a shower cap on for half hr or so before I rinse it out.

My water is hard, so I bought a £10 shower head with filter. I also use pre boiled water, the saddo that I am.

Whisked up eggs or just egg white to wash
