What does the hairdresser do to make my hair shine so much

As I can never get it looking as shiny as she does.

It can't be the shampoo as I use the salon shampoo.

So is it most likely the serum she puts on before drying or the straighteners? (the last time she used Moyoke).

Or is there just some hairdresser magic wizardry I don't know about....

For me, I think it’s just a really good blow dry which makes it shiny. Of course I can never do that myself though Grin

BillyShears · 21/06/2021 09:37

Doesn’t a good blow dry smooth your hair cuticles down so it looks shiny? I’m sure that’s the right terminology! The serum probably helps too but I would imagine it’s all in the way she blow dries it.

Fanceeepant · 21/06/2021 09:40

Mine always uses this on mine and it looks amazing it's expensive but I think I'm going to buy myself some

RubyFowler · 21/06/2021 09:42

I also think its the blow dry skills.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/06/2021 09:47

It's the way they blow dry all one way so all the cuticles on the hair shaft dy flat and smooth ( I think!)

It's not just the products because my hairdresser has dried my hair using no products at all and it still looked fab.

I think it’s now well they wash the hair. If I wash hair at home it’s a quick shampoo, rub in, rinse. At the hairdressers they massage shampoo in forever, and then fully rinse, then repeat process with conditioner. Takes about 20- 30 mins to wash my hair at hairdressers v 5 mins at home

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/06/2021 09:55

It takes about 5 minutes to wash my hair at the hairdressers!

TitilatedOcelot · 21/06/2021 10:14

Could it be the water if you are in a hard water area - maybe the salon has a water softener?

highlighta · 21/06/2021 10:28

It seems then that the wizardry may be a combination of good blow drying and perhaps washing better/longer. I just cannot dry my hair like my hairdresser does, I even bought the same brushes.

If I had the time and the money, I would go every second day to get it washed and dried. Until then I will continue looking like I tried hard....

It’s definitely the blowdry. I know this because my hairdresser comes to my house and I wash it myself using my own shampoo & conditioner. It doesn’t ever look like that when I dry it myself.
The only thing that comes close is the Babyliss big hair styler - you could try that

SoupDragon · 21/06/2021 17:28

I've often wondered this and now know it's the blow dry as he didn't put anything on my hair other than a heat protector spray before he used straighteners - it was shiny before that!

I'm not sure it's possible to do it on yourself as easily because of the angle when you hold the drier.

Girlintheframe · 21/06/2021 19:26

It's definitely down to the hairdressers drying skill. Ive bought practically every single product my hairdresser has every used on my hair to try to recreate the shine. But alas I just can't.
I googled some you tube vids and practice so 🤞one day!

SwedishEdith · 21/06/2021 21:00

Definitely the blow drying. And my hair will look good for nearly a week afterwards. It doesn't even seem to matter if they rough dry it with a towel while wet either.

Musmerian · 21/06/2021 21:07

Try the GHD glide. It’s magic and makes my hair shiny and smooth but not flat.
