Botox fillers and the likes

Thinking of some mild improvements to my looks...main concerns are neck,
Nasal folds and my cheeks are sagging a bit..

I am so inexperienced in the territory of cosmetic surgery and procedures and just don't know where to begin.. it feels too overwhelming to start Googling..

So where do you go for stuff like that? I am not the easily trusting type so always looking for the top professionals with good track record of success.. assume you would want that before you hand over your face for fixing...

Based in London.. any tips would be much appropriated xx

I go to Dr Leah. She has two clinics in London. She's very down to earth about what will and won't work for you. I've been going about 5 years now and am very pleased with the ongoing results. It's all very subtle. No one would know I have had work done but people often comment on how well I look and the fact that I don't seem to have aged!

Let’s be real Botox is painful. It feels like having needles stuck in your face. Mind you he’s always surprised how much I bleed so perhaps I’m a bit more thin skinned than your average patient.
Great for smooth forehead and around eyes though.

The most painful area for me is filler in the lines above my lips. I had quite deep set lines which were just bad luck as all my relatives have them. I have them filled every other year, a bit of filler in my jowls area every year, a bit in my lips every other year and my cheeks every other year.

OMG. This is so true. I had fillers in my lip line on Friday and it's still sore now. I don't know how you cope with lip fillers if even the lip line is agony. It's worth it though. It's smoothed out all my cats bum lines and I it will look lovely as soon as the bruising fades. It should last at least a year.

Botox OTOH is not painful at all. Idk why - perhaps the needles are tiny. I don't even flinch during botox (eye area).

Dr Joanna at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic in London is brilliant for a completely natural look and trained as a dentist.

Dr Don Othoro in SW20 is fantastic. Highly recommend, He's based in New Life Aesthetics.

I have just had Botox for migraine and I'd second that no-one mentioned how painful it is! I was obvs expecting needles in my face but not that it was going to sting for 30 min afterwards.

I saw Dr Allan at Woodford Medical - they have clinics around the country and do a huge range of cosmetic botox + other procedures, she was fantastic and highly recommended.

Floozymum · 21/06/2021 23:06

Ideally go to a few different clinics and have some consultations. I think it's really important that you feel comfortable with your injector.

I'd recommend having a budget in mind and be prepared to go a few times to get best results.

Botox really shouldn't hurt. It's a bit nippy but takes about 2 minutes! And you don't have to have it for life (but most people love the effects so want to! Wink)

FYI I'm an aesthetic nurse and I work for a cosmetic surgeon.

AnnieSnap · 21/06/2021 23:14

I didn’t find my Botox painful at all. I guess we vary on that.

@Danidandan

Try and go to personal recommendations. Or research. My lady is also a qualified nurse which makes me feel SO much better after my bi-yearly trips.

I would advice try and find somebody very reputable with some sort of medical license. Although not too easy to find! My lady is quite a bit more pricey than others. But it's because of her medical qualifications and extensive training.

Reviews too - if you find somebody, ask if they have a Facebook page and have a look at the reviews. And never be afraid to ask to look at their previous work and how long they've been practicing for!

You have to have medical training to administer botox. Dr, nurse, dentist or prescribing pharmacist. I like to go to a maxillofacial dentist as they have extensive knowledge of face structure.
LilyTheMink · 22/06/2021 07:29

It is 'easy' to be allowed to administer botox if you are already a dr, nurse, dentist etc.
No extra training.
So find someone who is medically qualified in faces!

With Botox... I heard that if you start you can't never stop .. or at least it will looks worst if you did.. is this true?

Of course that's not true. I did stop for a few years. But in all honesty, botox is so good, that once you start you might not want to stop, because you will see your wrinkles all return. If you are going to have it, you should have it every 5-6 months, before the wrinkles have a chance to return, as you don't want your body to remember how to wrinkle, iyswim.

I am 51, and I have zero wrinkles thanks to botox. I have it in my forehead and around the eyes. To answer your question on pain, it's mild discomfort, and the doctor will do your face in minutes.

I use Tracy Mountford's clinic in London, have done for several years. She is expensive and does the celeb clientele but the other practitioners are great, very experienced and listen to what you want.
I try to go every 4 months or so for Botox, 9-12 months for filler.
I'm 45 and pass for 10 years younger on a good day Grin I do have some fine lines but I retained some movement so that is unavoidable as they are simply creases. I didn't want to look like a hard boiled egg with a face drawn on. I do have my 11s completely frozen out though. No-one needs to look like they are permanently frowning.
Also small amount of lip filler to avoid cat's bum mouth. I did not want to look like a Geordie Shore/blow up doll replica and nurse was completely great with the work.
Botox is only short scratch needle pricks (though I do end up with a headache!) but lip filler really hurts. And they swell to comic proportions for about 48hrs after so you need to hibernate or be rumbled.
