Anyone with some greys dye their hair at home?

My natural hair colour is a dark mousey brown. I’m now getting more & more greys coming through.
I recently had a full head of highlights & a tint to cover the greys in between. Am now slightly regretting this as the roots are coming through and it looks awful. I’m going to have to get them done about every 6 weeks and the cost is ridiculous just for a root tint. I also feel the highlights are too yellowy & not right for my skintone.

Does anyone dye their hair at home to cover greys - could I do this on highlighted hair? Basically I need to find a cheaper way of doing this going forward. I don’t really know what it is I need so any help would be much appreciated.

cinnamon wow, is that possible if your hair is dark too? I’ve never had this problem. Can’t say I’d be that bothered if I did get green hair, especially as it’s short so would grow out fairly soon - but is that the only issue or is it bad for you in some way?

My greys got worse gradually and by December 2019 I dyed it with clairol natural instincts as it appeared to be one of the gentlest/ natural/ no ammonia. It was great and seemed to hide the greys for 4 months the first few times!

However I'm suddenly getting more grey quicker or it's not working as good as the last time was 6 weeks!

There's no way I'd pay salon prices as I don't want any grey showing and for £6 a box I can do my hair monthly if required (very soon I guess).

Although it's been good to read the tips on here about touch ups and other makes.

Thanks everyone for sharing.

@MrsBunHat I've just done a quick google and it appears to be a problem if your henna contains indigo (which seems to be a subpar variant of henna). Hair turning green does not seem to be a common problem, so I'm guessing the quality of henna dye has improved since the seventies.

My mum's hair was moss green. She tried colouring over the top, but it still showed. Green was not a cool colour then!

Thanks @Purplewithred. It's a demi permanent though, rather than a true semi

Thanks *@Purplewithred*. It's a demi permanent though, rather than a true semi
Oh! How interesting. What's the difference? (It definitely works better for me than proper permanent, in terms of hair damage and growout badger effect, but I'm up for something even better if it exists).

I tried earlier in lockdown using a permanent dye.
Think I was just bored & wanted a change.
It didn't go well.
Despite choosing a soft dark brown it ended up pure black. I looked just like Silvio Berlusconi.
I followed that up with a pretty savage hack at my hair to remove as much of the dyed stuff as possible.
Luckily I didn't have to go anywhere for a couple of months cos I would have scared the horses.
Still growing it out and the now the ends have faded to a weird orangutan colour.
I've given up dyeing it & hoping the grey just gets on with it so it's more salt, less pepper/cumin/turmeric.
