Boots No 7 Skincare- does it work?

Your suggestions please.

I'm looking for some skin care for my Mum (late 80s but still interested in make up and has good skin.) I do her shopping.

I've been buying her Clinique for a while but it's a) pricy and b) not sure it helps wrinkles.

She's recently tried Loreal Retinol and Loreal day creams (the ones with 'filler'). Not much difference!

I'm wondering about Boots No 7 , especially the ones with retinol.

Anyone any experiences?

Retinol is a long game and takes months to make much difference tbh.
Additionally, it depends on the % of retinol and the type of retinol in the product. A lot of companies have had their wrists slapped for advertising 1% (for example) when it's the type of retinol that needs that % to be divided by 10 before you have the actual level of active retinol.

N7 is good middle of the range stuff, the pink coloured range (can't remember the name) is formulated for mature skin.

Clinique skincare I find hit and miss. Remember it was initially marketed at and targeted towards "problem" skin (oily, spotty) and only in recent years has gone for more mainstream marketing. If it's moisture surge she's been using I find it one of the worst moisturizers I've ever used!

Have a look at Nadine Baggott videos, no nonsense skincare for all ages and across all price points. If you want an entry level retinol she recently recommended an Olay one.

I switched from Clinique to Aldi, really can't tell the difference (apart from price!). They do a mature skin one

Thanks.

@Geamhradh The Boots No 7 I'm looking at is 3% retinol (it's the night one) and think it's in purple packaging.

I dunno she is 80 and going to have wrinkles i know she wants to look her best but... anyway I use no7 moisture range and I love it my skin feels lovely.

Geamhradh · 16/06/2021 08:32

I just checked the Nadine video about it, it's a 0.3% one (if it's the one advertising at 1.5% on the packaging) Retinol is a minefield on the labelling!
It gets good reviews, but yes, tbh, at your mum's age, not sure a retinol would change her life.
My mum (similar age) used to love l'Occitane Divine moisturizer, N7 pink range (something and restore I think it's called) Neal's Yard Frankincense nourishing, Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference among others.

I like the Boots No 7 protect and perfect range and I do notice a difference.

I love my skin care so try out lots of products

I'm currently using Sunday Riley Luna which would probably suit your DM as it's very nourishing and has retinol. Once that runs out I'll be back on my No 7 retinol. The Luna has lasted me since I got it in my beauty advent calendar and I'm only half way through the bottle and use it nearly every night so it's very cost effective too. I often apply my No 7 P&P night cream over it depending on how my skin feels that day. And I use the p&p day cream over my serum and under my sun cream daily when going outside. Otherwise I just use my serum. But again I go by how my skin feels on the day

JaneJeffer · 16/06/2021 14:44

If you get retinol for her make sure she wears sunscreen during the day or she will have more problems than she started with!

lindyloo57 · 16/06/2021 19:14

Most over the counter creams don't have the retinol you need to make any difference, you need the real stuff that you only get from a dermatologist it can cost lots, but you can buy it abroad from spain for example for as little as 15 euros

Palavah · 16/06/2021 19:17

Try Eucerin

MrsDThomas · 18/06/2021 06:45

With all due respect, being late 80s, well no wrinkle cream is gonna help.

But for moisturising i love Loreal revitalist.
I did use No7 for years then changed to Loreal, back to No7 the realised its way too scented and its overpowering. So im back on Loreal
