Keeping a wrap dress wrapped?

pastelpinkpeony · 15/06/2021 21:10

I've treated myself to a very pretty wrap dress. It fits well apart from the bust area, I'm not well endowed and the top gapes.
Please tell me how I can prevent exposing my ugly, flesh coloured overly padded bra?
I'm worried a safety pin will rip the fabric, googling suggests I sew on poppers but I'm hopeless with a needle and thread. Is there some magic tape I could buy?
It's too late to return the dress so I have to make it work.
Any advice welcome!

Tit tape, or wear a vest/camisole underneath

Might also be worth trying the next size up because it will fit better around the bust and can be wrapped tight around the waist

Thanks, I tried a camisole but it doesn't suit the party style of the dress and, if anything it's too big so sizing up will swamp me.
Does tit tape stick to fabric?

Yes, tit tape is double sided tape so sticks to your skin and the fabric and keeps them together

Yes, double sided tape, should be able to get it in M&S or John L, typically in the underwear department.

Superdrug and boots sell it as well - it’s called ‘body tape’

You can also get velcro in button sized shapes with glue suitable for clothing. They're perfect for this and also for placing in the skirts about mid thigh for the added security on a gusty day. I got mine from amazon. And they peel off but if you're worried about the fabric just wash as usual and they'll come off that way, though you do then have a little hunt to find them!

In the 80s, I used to sew on press-studs.
They mostly worked, but made an impressive sound if put under too much strain!

Thanks so much, great advice.
I've ordered some tape from M&S with a plunge bra that's the same colour as the dress.

Pretty bra! This is one of the reasons l don’t wear white or “cardboard” (so called beige, but l have another name for it) bras.

Then if momentarily a bit of bra does show, it looks as if it’s meant to and l think what the hell!

The best way to make a wrap dress that is gaping fit is to take some of the gape away.

I sew darts into mine and my daughters - but if you are not good with a needle then you should just fold some of the material over no the wrap part and pin it with a safety pin where it won't be seen. It's very easy.

The only way to make it fit property and neatly is to see if a local seamstress can help.

My daughter was really impressed when I sorted her gape!
