Colour correction make-up - can anyone do a proper for dummies walk through?

Or link to a YouTube video perhaps?

I rarely to never wear make-up, when I do I use mineral foundation and very little at that. However I have noticed that I need to do something about my visible pores, eye circles and redness over my nose (outside working for too many years!).

I have started a skin regime for the pores/dry skin which is all looking great so next is colour correction and I have no idea what I am doing, how to apply, how much to apply etc. Will it cake if I then put my usual foundation on??

I am an absolute beginner, please help! All I want is to look flawless and natural on my wedding day Grin

Sorry I can’t access YouTube on work WiFi (🙄) but from my understanding colour correction is based on opposite colours on a colour wheel:

green counteracts red, which is useful for covering up blemishes or a red nose

orange counteracts blue, so deeper skin tones can use orange for dark circles and lighter skin tones can use peach for their dark circles

in my honest opinion though colour correction is a bit of a faff. it’s not necessarily cakey if you layer it correctly but it just takes a lot of time for a marginal difference

Ok, I was really hoping this was going to change my life but now I'm not so sure...

I need to open my eyes, I have small eyes with dark circles that make my eyes dissappear when I smile, what do I do?

If you are pretty limited in make up knowledge, a good place to start can be the department store beauty counters. I learned a lot when I was younger that way. Look for the salesperson with the best make up, the kind of style that you like and ask their advice.

This video might be helpful:

I like her make up, but it depends what you like

I used a green colour corrector to disguise the red tone in my skin. I used a solid block one rather than a tube as I find it blends better for my skin type. It really helps. Particularly on my nose.

purplecorkheart · 15/06/2021 22:13

use

TeenTraumaTrials · 15/06/2021 22:17

I've used green primer for years. Just put it on the areas I can see as red (sides of my nose mainly) and on the areas on my cheeks I know get red if I have chilli/garlic/alcohol/get too hot. Make sure it's blended well. Then I put normal foundation on top. Can't see why it would be any more cakey than any other primer or foundation. If I don't use this I look like I've run a marathon or like I've been drinking all day! But I definitely don't use the green on my eye circles. Green is for red.

I use veil concealer pen which deals with my dark circles and redness.

Have a look at beauty and the boutique, she's got loads of make up tutorials.

Cowbells · 15/06/2021 22:55

I was going to link to Andrea Ali too. She's so reliable and really carefully shows you how to look good. FWIW I think the correct primer, concealer and then foundation will work without colour correction and will look more natural.
It's expensive but the Benefits porefessional primer is wonderful (though Maybelline babyface is supposed to be similar for 1/3 of the price.)

Thank you :) I've fallen down a rabbit hole of tutorials - and some of them make sense which is a first. My weekend is going to be spent playing I think. It's only taken me 45 years but I'm starting to feel like make up may be achievable! Fingers crossed 🤞

I like Robert Welsh too.

Otherwise search "colour correction make up" or similar in YouTube

I use Erborian green CC cream to cover my rosacea. It's the only colour change product that doesn't get confused by the redness - it covers it well but still looks natural (meaning it won't cover it completely). I dislike green on it's own as if my foundation rubs off or just fades it leaves me with odd greyish patches.

I've used Nyx peach corrector but tbh the darkness under my eyes is impossible to cover up as the hollows under my eyes are kind of sunken, so it's shadowed. Adding more and more product looks worse, cakey and gross on my textured skin. I prefer to keep it more natural looking.
