Swimsuit for very slender teenager

SirVixofVixHall · 15/06/2021 14:41

My dd is 14. She has only recently started her big grow, so she is five foot two. She is also very slender, and this won’t change much as she grows, as dd1 at 16 is also very slightly built.
Anyway swimsuits are a problem. Until now I have bought her Landsend slim fit ones from the US, but they stop at an age 12, and she is just that bit too tall now and getting taller.
She measures about 29” around her chest, her waist is 22” , and so everything is too wide. She needs it for under a wetsuit so really wants a one piece, in the past she has also found tankinis too loose, they ride up when she swims. She has a bikini that is ok, but doesn’t like it under her wetsuit, she doesn’t have much of a bust yet so the tops ride up.
Any tips for a slender fitting swimsuit? Trousers are also a nightmare !

Maru were the only costumes that fitted my skinny girls. Speedos would gape indecently at the legs.

Decathlon swimming suits are very very slim fitting

SirVixofVixHall · 20/06/2021 16:28

Lots of suggestions, thank you so much .
I will look at Maru and Decathlon.
I will think of looking for xxs women’s suits for smaller waists, the C-skins wetsuit for her age is definitely wider than the women’s size 4.
Both dd have very narrow ribs all the way up, so bras are a nightmare for DD1 too.
Anyone with a slightly built daughter under 12 I can recommend Petit Bateau and the Landsend slim fit ( although the latter have to be bought from the US, they only have the normal fit on the UK website). I think Landsend may also do a curvier fit, not sure though? Makes sense as 10-12 year olds are not all the same frame, just like adults.

Primark size 4 come up smaller than most other shops. H&M sometimes stock XXS which is tiny

SirVixofVixHall · 20/06/2021 16:36

I am very glad I posted, as I have so many suggestions that I feel some of them are bound to fit . Dd likes lots of the styles too, which is great as she is pleased and saying thank you to all who posted.
She is in the water most days through the Summer and Autumn so two or three suits would be great and I am hopeful now, having sent four back recently.
Thank you so much everyone, lots of ideas for other teens too.

Adding Primark and Hennes to the list Smile

My Dd is the same, and I was going to recommend Decathlon women's
Xxs, we have a good fitting rash vest and swimsuit from there.

Fortunately Dd likes to wear her clothes quite baggy and slung low on her hips. She wears Primark 2xs and some Uniqlo xxs trousers with drawstrings, which are far too big, but she insists she likes them.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/06/2021 16:59

Ah yes Cinnamon trousers are so difficult to get. I have had some altered in the past, or altered them myself. Summer is brilliant as she lives in shorts, so much easier to size down in shorts as no leg length to worry about.
Weirdly zara Girls stuff is often huge, when the womenswear is incredibly tiny !

Success ! Thank you so much everyone as I would not have found them without you.
A few of the professional swimsuits fitted her really well in the 30” .She
Iiked the colour of one particularly, Tyr brand. so we are keeping that. It really is a lovely fit, close fitting without being too tight, and I would never have thought to look at these, so I am really grateful. The Finals brand also fitted her really well.
The Seafolly ones are beautiful but all sadly too wide for her. They have adjustable straps and are good quality, but they all gaped at the small of her back, two had low backs with lace up or straps and there was this big gape where the waist is too big. One was also really baggy around her ribs as no back lacing. Possibly she could try the age 12 in this brand, so I might exchange one for a 12 to try as they are v nice suits.
The H&M women’s size 4 also fitted ! I had ordered the simplest style that didn’t look too adult, a scoop neck and scoop back in cream stripe. It really looks beautiful. Dd1 very much wanted it too, but although it fits her widthwise, it is far too short, so it is like a petite fit. It won’t fit dd2 if she gets much taller but it will be lovely for this Summer. Would be great for any petite and very slender teenager. It is less skimpy than it looks and the pads are removable and not bulky. This is the one. In the size 4 I would say it won’t fit much above five foot two.

Huge thanks to all ! Wine

Ah so nice you got some for her! FYI those pro swimwear and other places similar (swim path etc) often have really good sales so it might be worth making sure you are subscribed so you can pick up bargains. I would say they are often at the end of summer when a lot of competitive swimming kinda re-starts for the next year in the autumn.

MoltonSilver · 24/06/2021 11:42

If you find something that's almost right you could have it alerted.

SirVixofVixHall · 24/06/2021 13:01

Yes I did wonder about having one of the Seafolly ones altered, i can sea but swimwear is really tricky because of the stretch.
Kjr33 thanks for the tip, I will keep an eye out. The suits are so well fitting that I am sure I will buy more. They really sit well against the small of her back, no gaping at all, so will work well for wriggling into a wetsuit too, as easier to pull on the wetsuit with a snug swimsuit, and no loose fabric to catch in the zip.
Also dd is really happy to have found something as they get so much use.

Decathlon sizing is tiny. An aged 14 swim suit fitted my skinny 8 year old.

Babyiskickingmyribs · 24/06/2021 13:12

For next time OP, Petit Bateau do women’s swim suits too, starting with a size xxs which seems to be equivalent to their age 12 girls stuff. Size 34 French which is supposedly like a Uk 6 but probably more like a 4.

BikeRunSki · 24/06/2021 13:30

funkita are slim fitting, long in the body and the girls styles go up to age 14. This particular style has an adjustable back size.

Yes, I had thought of that but they are double the price of the girls ones , around £70, so I have never tried them. Last time I looked they were all halter neck too which is no good with a wetsuit, can pull on the back of the neck. I will have a look at their sale though.
