Milia removal - what worked for you?

LeSquigh · 12/06/2021 17:48

Hi all

I have quite a few deep milia on my face, mostly under the eye area. I confess that I have removed many of the less deep seated ones shelf with a pin (I KNOW!) with some success but I have a good many more that are fairly deep so won’t attempt that myself.

Does anyone have any experience with the removal? Does it have to be done by a proper skin doctor? Can a beauty salon do this, if so how? Is there any type of facial that clears them? Or is there any buy at home products that would see to them - at least bringing them higher to the surface?

Thanks for reading and I hope someone can help! :)

I'm interested in any replies too. I've always had loads & it looks like dd is getting them too.

I sometimes (carefully) attack my face with a needle, get rid of as many as I can & wash my face with anti bacterial face wash twice a day while they heal.

Not an instant fix, but a load of mine cleared up when I started using Paula's choice BHA

Hereforthedramaz · 12/06/2021 18:00

I've been advised (and found it worked) to use a very gentle exfoliater on them.

I use dermalogica daily microfoliant and it makes all the difference in getting rid of them and they don't come back.

I also get them under my eyes so it really does have to be gently exfoliation!

LeSquigh · 12/06/2021 18:40

@PhantomErik yes I do pretty much the same as you!

@WhyDoIFeelAwful I have seen that advertised when I’ve googled about milia, good to know you’ve had some results.

@Hereforthedramaz thanks, I’ll look into that.

I always figured that the harsher the scrub the better it would be for them (I’ve been known to use Sanctuary salt body scrub on my face!) but this actually probably isn’t helping.

Interested in any other experiences!

I'd go to a dermatologist or doctors to get them removes if they are deep. Mine generally seem to grow out of their own accord but I've also had them removed too

ShangPie · 13/06/2021 12:57

Agree with the acid toners and wipes. They remove the dead skin layers above the milia and make them much easier to remove.

You can get Nip + Fab ones on offer pretty much anywhere, also worth trying Dr Dennis Gross and Zelens if you want to splash out

I went to a dermatologist and she said mine are hereditary and would come back. Did herself out of a repeat customer by saying I'd be best off learning to live with them. I have well over 100 though.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 13/06/2021 13:08

I got mine removed at a beauty salon. They did a great job, couldn't even see the marks where they'd popped them (not like the mess I make with a needle anyway!).

I’ve got one on my lower eyelash line and it’s driving me mad. It’s been there a month or 2 now and it’s too near my eye to be poking around. It looks like I have a tiny speck of something stuck to my eyelashes and it’s really bugging me.... but I’d feel a bit ridiculous going to a doctor about it, so not sure what to do. I guess I could seek out a dermatologist, but don’t want to spend loads of money for them to say there’s nothing they can do ...

Defiantly41 · 14/06/2021 00:10

@bumblenbean I had one exactly like that. Alpha H liquid gold applied twice a day with a cotton bud completely got rid of it after about a week

Totallydefeated · 14/06/2021 00:14

The Ordinary Peeling Solution gets rid of them after one or two goes. It does leave my skin red for a day or two, though.

Deux · 14/06/2021 00:17

I have a tendency to get these too. Paula’s Choice BHA, as per PP, does a good job of preventing them. I don’t apply it with cotton wool. I drip some into my palm and then kind of dab/pat it on. As a bonus this makes a bottle last much longer. If I do get any then I do a bit of DIY surgery.

LeSquigh · 14/06/2021 10:12

@Defiantly41 ah yes the liquid gold, I keep hearing good things about this, I’m definitely going to give that a try!

Exfoliating then holding a warm flannel for ages then nick the top off with a sterilized needle and coax out with a gentle squeeze- fingers covered in tissue.

Works every time and no scaring.

happyrainydays · 14/06/2021 16:48

Does anyone know which Alpha H liquid Gold it is? I've just had a quick google and there's loads of products.

CheerfulBunny · 14/06/2021 17:12

Interesting. Looking for tips as I recently had a few milia in my undereye area caused by using Liz Earle moisturiser (once again. Do I never learn??) In the past I've messed about with them and eventually they've come out when they're ready but his time, because they were under my eyes, I've left them alone. The last one has just sort of faded away but it's taken a good two or three months. I'm not sure I'd have the guts to fiddle with pins and stuff near my eyes in case it became infected but fair play to you if you're brave enough.

Beachlovingirl · 14/06/2021 20:31

I had one big one right on the inside of my eye and it was soo annoying. I went to my Aesthetician and she used a laser on it and it was gone there and then never came back. No downtime at all took hardly any time.

Beachlovingirl · 14/06/2021 20:35

Sorry it was not on my eye it was in that space between eye and nose. That corner.
