The jumpsuit thing

So I'm a size 16/18 5ft7 with a lot of my height in my body, fairly hourglass shaped. I love the idea of jumpsuits or dungarees for my summer wardrobe (not least because they'd stop the tops of my thighs rubbing!) but have low self confidence and feel a bit daft in them. I see so many people, including those with curves look elegant and chic in them but I just seem to look like a pregnant frump in overalls! Help any recommendations for jumpsuits that suit a larger girl?

I think something that goes in at the waist with a v neck would be good. I love jumpsuits u til I need to go to the toilet....

Phase8 jumpsuits suit this shape I think

soloula · 10/06/2021 18:31

I'm the same size/height OP and I got this one off popsy and it's so flattering. I'd been reluctant to wear them too but I feel so nice in this (except when I need the loo...).

Seasalt

It's really hard to find a jumpsuit if you have a long torso- like me too.

I have one but some people seem to wear them all the time so effortlessly so I think it might be the long torso that causes a a problem.

I also know what you mean about feeling self conscious as I do too- why is that? I can think of any valid reason l!?

Kittykate15 · 10/06/2021 20:32

I guess I just need to try a few. Silly isn't it, I feel 'dressed up' in a frock too, then I see people wearing similar just in the supermarket! Wish I had more body confidence but stuck as a 10yr old tomboy and never quite worked out how to dress a fast approaching 40 curvy woman!!!

@emptyplinth ooh wouldn't have thought of seasalt, some of those look lovely.

I have a long torso too and have never found one that doesn’t make me look awful. Usually due to the ill fitting body length. I despair as I think they look so effortlessly cool on other women of all different shapes and sizes

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 10/06/2021 20:46

I’ve never found one that fits, my torso is too long. My friend is about your size and has a lovely one from Scarlett & Jo that I’m super jealous of.

BikeRunSki · 10/06/2021 23:52

🙋‍♀️ another long torso person who has never found a jumpsuit to fit. (I’m 5’8”, size 14/16).

Those Boden ones that @AnnieSnap has posted seem like they would be your best bet. Rather than a button down "boiler suit" type.
It's all trial and error!

I have a jersey jumpsuit from hush. It’s fairly simple, sleeveless with elasticated waist and a neckline that means it can be slid off off your shoulders to pull down. It’s a very “safe” style of jumpsuit and doesn’t scream look at me.
I also have a few pairs of dungarees from Lucy and yak. They are a different shape as no elasticated waist so from what you say might not be for you but I was surprised that they skim rather than highlight my mum tum.
Benefits of dungarees are that they are adjustable for height and you can wear a T under so less exposed feeling in public loos (especially train loos with unpredictable sliding doors). They can however be harder to style if you aren’t going for the CBeebies presenter look.

Blueballinthegarden · 11/06/2021 07:55

I have Lucy and Yaks too! As Procrastatron said re CBeebies presenter but they come in a variety of styles, colours etc - I wear mine with converse and could probably live in them!
