Teacher summer outfits

Help Mumsnet! I'm a dumpy size 16 with chubby top of arms that I like to keep covered. I love a cotton and elastic mix dress from DP but struggling to find anything else cool to wear in the summer months! It can't be too short or to much boob either.

Please help!

I like tunic type tops with leggings for summer in the classroom.

PurpleSplodge · 08/06/2021 20:06

We are not allowed to wear leggings. Sad thank you though.

Primary or secondary?
What's your dress code like?

I tend to go for cotton dresses where possible. Joules, fat Face and white stuff are my go to. I've had some good ones from Wierd fish and occasionally marks.

cherrypiepie · 08/06/2021 20:07

Linen Culottes and a tucked in top (also a 16/18 chunky teacher)

Midi skirts and tops (smart t shirts)

Palmiera 'shoes'

AppleKatie · 08/06/2021 20:08

Dresses from Roman are my saviour.

If you solve the shoe dilemma I’d love to hear the solution 😂

PurpleSplodge · 08/06/2021 20:09

Secondary science so open shoes are a bit of a no too in the labs.

Dress code is smartish...?

Thanks for the suggestions so far I shall Google them!

I like Hobbs dresses (specifically the Bayview style) which make me feel OK (size 18). I wear chub rub shorts underneath.

Shoes tend to be ballet flats.

ramonaquimby · 08/06/2021 20:25

Boden has some great summer dresses

They also sell in a long length which is better (for me!) in the classroom

Baileystruffle · 08/06/2021 20:29

Linen trousers can look smartish and are cool
Cotton or linen dresses
If they are too low can wear a thin vest underneath

Magpiecomplex · 08/06/2021 20:33

Linen trousers for me, with a selection of tops. I'm FE science and haven't solved the shoe problem yet - I keep switching between sandals and closed lightweight shoes depending on what I'm doing.

Frlrlrubert · 08/06/2021 20:46

I'm wearing stretchy wrap style dresses (Amazon essentials stretchy cap sleek faux-wrap, but I'm sure more upmarket ones are available). I do need a vest top under to prevent cleavage. I'm still in tights just now, but they're long enough to do without (or with those little shorts that stop you sticking together). I'm science too so it's Clarke's Mary-Jane style shoes for me once it's too hot for my boots.

Welshponyslave · 10/06/2021 06:16

I wear jumpsuits- long leg and cullotte style. I find them cool in the heat and functional too.
I wear closed toe espadrille wedges with them- have a brown and a black pair.

Deodorant, perfume and face powder in the top
Drawer too- teaching is brutal in the summer Blush why do none of the windows open more than an inch?!? I am stuck in there with 30 teenagers, straight after they have done PE!

habibihabibi · 10/06/2021 06:29

Long sleeved midi shirt dresses (zara has loads this season) with smart closed toe espadrille wedges.

Livinthedream84 · 10/06/2021 06:59

I’m secondary science and I’m melting in close toed shoes lol. At the moment I’m wearing linen trousers and a selection of cotton tops. Today I’ve got a pencil skirt and a blouse on, haven’t left the house and I’m warm :( think linen is the way to go

tigerbreadandtea · 10/06/2021 07:05

Next have so many dresses to choose from.

DirectionsForUse · 10/06/2021 07:09

White stuff dresses in the sale do it for me. Probably a bit mumsy but comfortable and lots of cotton.

PurpleSplodge · 11/06/2021 16:53

Loving the suggestions so far thanks ladies!

I have a couple of cotton dresses from monsoon that i wear for work. They cover shoulders and knees (our dress code) and are nice and cool. Some of the Zara shirt dresses are lovely but I can’t buy any more!
As for shoes I wear pointy flats most days (also science so no open toed) I reckon I could get away with vans style pumps though even though that’d be against the rules. Might try next week.

I hear you, sister. Yr9s reeking after running around on the astroturf, trying to spray Lynx Africa or Impulse adding a heady concoction to an airless room with windows only opening 5cm. Add the joy of the menopause Grin. I also have a drawer of essentials, including a water spray, wipes and light cologne?
Maireas · 12/06/2021 14:46

OP, some good suggestions on here. I got a couple of dresses from Toast which are cotton and meet the dress code. Also Mango seem to be doing some cotton dresses which are a bit more budget friendly. I also got a couple of cotton jersey skirts from M&S which I wear with slash neck cotton tops from Jigsaw.

You guys would hate our school! Anything goes all year round! Most of us are in skinny jeans and vest tops! Or linen trousers and a vest! Or sportswear! We are a primary school though!

justaweeone · 12/06/2021 15:22

Colleague had these on the other day and they looked lovely, not sure if still too open for labs though
