Can I get away with this co-ord for work?

It’s a PASTEL BLUE blazer with shorts set. Bought it from Zara but can’t find it online however this photo is similar.

It’s not the exact same - the shorts are slightly above my knees.

Work’s dress code is “smart-casual”. Do you think with the right shoes and top (obviously I wouldn’t wear that bralet!) I could wear it to work? If so, what shirt/blouse or shoes do you think??

I wouldn’t. I don’t think shorts are ever appropriate for an office environment. There are so many other options out there that ARE appropriate.

ChubbyMsSunshine · 06/06/2021 16:13

I think it depends what industry you work in.

If the shorts are longer than that I'd have got away with it in my old job but def not my current one, for example.

RestingPandaFace · 06/06/2021 16:17

I’ve never worked anywhere that shorts were OK in the office. I think they look great if you are slimmer with great legs but there’s just a weird stigma.

qualitygirl · 06/06/2021 16:21

Well you might. Depending on your workplace.I wouldn't but I can't even have my ankles exposed.

ProudPolyGradSingleMum · 06/06/2021 16:22

Depends on your work.

MyNameForToday1980 · 06/06/2021 16:24

The shorts are too short for my workplace, there's no rule against it, but it'd certainly be frowned upon (rightly or wrongly).

Standard Chino or city shorts (mid thigh/above knee) would be fine.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 06/06/2021 16:25

Depends on your workplace as above - head office of a fashion retailer, yes. More corporate environment like one of the big 4, probably not.

colouringcrayons · 06/06/2021 16:25

If the shorts are knee length and as you won't wear a bra top under the jacket then it would be fine at my work.

But I think you'll look like a tennis line judge.

Wanttocry · 06/06/2021 16:27

It’s weird how shorts seem more casual and less work appropriate than a skirt of identical length. But they do, I wouldn’t wear shorts to work.

callmemaybee · 06/06/2021 16:39

Ok, pretty unanimous then!

Maybe I’ll hunt for a skirt of appropriate length !

I work for the government so the dress code isn’t super formal but tbh, pastel blue would be considered “out there”. I do see colleagues in short dresses and dr martens but I also understand your point. I’ll only wear it when I work from home Grin
