Help! 13 yr old daughter and spots

Greenspleen · 05/06/2021 10:05

She has had amazing skin up until a few months ago when her hormones started kicking in (no period yet).
She has lots of bumps/small spots on her forehead and some bigger spots and dry skin around her nose.
We are both very, very sensitive to skin products - if something is too strong she will get a red rash and a burning sensation.
We are using Sukin at the moment and I only use Liz Earle as it doesnt irritate my skin. Can she use that? Will the exfoliation cloths help for her forehead?
She has also upped her intake of sugar/crap food etc when out with friends - I imagine this doesnt help?
Thanks

To be honest ask gp for a prescription for duac. Over the counter stuff doesnt work. My DD aged 15 has a bumpy forehead without the cream - it works very quickly and used sparingly due to sensitive skin.

Thank you.

Yes, drs. Ask how long to give a treatment to work before trying an alternative.

I cannot stress enough that your not doing anything wrong when you get acne, it’s just a bacterial skin infection that responds to antibiotics.

If you get a boil anywhere else on your body you get antibiotics, you don’t blame yourself.

Thank you. I'll make an appointment.

Try Dermatica / skin and me

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2021 05:57

I know that’s well intentioned but that would cost op £23 a month for about 6 months for a treatment the dr can prescribe for free.

Actually a GP cannot prescribe compounded formulas that Dermatica etc can prescribe .

GP follows NHS treatment pathways , first port of call likely Duac / Benzol peroxide ... not super effective .

NHS wait for Derm is 1 year plus .

Personally I'd rather pay £20 a month or see a private derm .

stevalnamechanger · 06/06/2021 19:43

You can also try Boots online acne clinic

reallyreallyborednow · 06/06/2021 19:45

Try acnecide facial wash. It’s worked really well for my teen.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2021 20:35

NICE guidelines are there for a reason though. And Duac is very effective for a lot of people.

Greenspleen · 06/06/2021 20:36

Thank you everyone, I will look all these up and go from there.

Try a break from dairy. Works for some people.

But the NHS does not offer the most cutting edge treatments compared to what's offered privately 💁‍♀️

There's limited research around dairy being effective , more evidence to support lower GI

Dr Anjali Mahto writes & speaks about this regularly ( top derm )

She is only 13... DD is 11, just spotty and just got her period. We have started micellar water, cetaphil face wash and moisturiser for oily skin. It is working a treat. Give otc stuff a chance first.

WhereAreWeNow · 07/06/2021 20:35

My DD is same age and has the same problem. She's been using Vichy Normaderm micellar water or La Roche Posay micellar water. Sometimes she uses LRP Effaclar Duo. Like you, we both have sensitive skin and I don't want her to use harsh products. I had acne as a teenager and used really harsh products that made my skin red, dry and sore. I think it actually made the acne worse. I'm trying to help my DD avoid making the same mistakes!

Greenspleen · 07/06/2021 20:58

I'm trying to do the same! Have bought La Roche Posay - 3 products for the price of 2 in Boots at the moment. Fingers crossed. Thanks

La roche posay is fantastic. My skin is ridiculously sensitive and it’s one of the only things I can use on my face without provoking a reaction. I use the cicaplast baume b5 when I’m breaking out.

Yolanda524 · 07/06/2021 22:27

I have only recently had bad skin and it was really getting me down and tried tons and spent a small fortune trying to find something that works. I then discovered Acnecide products. They work like a miracle cure I love them. And the spot treatment works really well if I do get a rare spot now.

fruitpastille · 07/06/2021 22:32

Teens these days... we all had to make do with a dab of toothpaste and advice gleaned from the problem page of Just 17 Grin Wish my mum had bought me lovely skin care!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 08/06/2021 09:43

I bought DD La Roche-Posey Toleraine cleanser. It's made a huge difference in a week. I specifically asked in the shop for something non harsh and non drying.

Greenspleen · 08/06/2021 12:10

Yes, we got the LRP Toleraine cleanser and the Effaclr Duo, only been a couple of days so far. I have sensitive skin but didn't have spots as a teenager, so don't really know where to start.
I am also sensitive to food, so will go in with diet as well - she eats far more sugar then I ever did.
