Make up help!

I am getting married in Scotland in September and I'm struggling to find a make up artist as they're booked up, though I'm reluctant to have it done by someone who doesn't know me or I haven't tried before too.

So, my plan is to practice before the day and do it myself, I'm naturally blonde, don't wear it heavy or dark but have a bit of a tan.

Questions are, should I go with darker eyes for photos, does a primer work? do you put it on before foundation, do the setting sprays work, and I need a nice natural pink lipstick.

Can you give me some recommendations and help please :)

Yes you should go for primer and setting spray- they're not magic or anything but definitely make makeup look better for longer.

You definitely need slightly more makeup that you would usually wear so it shows up more in photos. Matte foundation etc is better as you don't get flashback in photos. Just a little tip too but if you get shiny throughout the day then blotting paper is your friend.

I did my makeup myself on my wedding day too and just practiced lots beforehand. A nice natural pink lipstick that I like is Bobbi Brown Sandwash Pink.

I find it helpful to look at examples of bridal makeup- royalty is always a good place to start 😂 lots of close up pics online and articles about what products were used etc.

I would keep it natural - no need for dark eye makeup. You could use a brown eyeliner to accentuate your eyes without it being obvious. Yes, definitely get a good primer as it will stop your makeup from sliding off your face after a few hours! It goes on under your foundation. You can also eye an eye primer (I use Urban Decay) which will keep your eyeshadow from creasing.

And definitely use a setting spray as well - again, Urban Decay make a really good one.

You might want to experiment with individual false lashes as well just to add a bit more glam!

Lipstick wise - Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk?

Thank you so much for the tips, I've never even heard of blotting paper haha, so that's on my list definitely.

Good tip about looking online :)

As I'm saving on using a MAU I'll try the BB lipstick.

thank you Smile

This might be of interest @2me2u2u2me. Kate apparently did her makeup for her wedding (pretty brave given the world was watching). I thought she did well although a bit heavy on the eyeliner and blush.

I think Meghan's makeup was absolutely beautiful and a look that would suit any skin tone. Very natural and luminous foundation, very light on blush too. Really pretty eye makeup, fluttery lashes and light smokiness, and natural lipstick too.

I'll see if I can find an article specifically about it...

Here you go @2me2u2u2me, an interview with the MUA who created her wedding makeup look:

I Love Urban Decay, I've got some really nice eyeshadow of theirs and it stays on all night, I'd forgotten about that, so will definitely get the spray and try the lippy as well, like I say, I'm saving on getting someone to do it and want to treat myself to some nice products so will order these.

thank you :)

No idea as to the accuracy but some good product suggestions here too!

Although if you have a mascara, eyeliner etc that really works for you, I wouldn't switch it. Stick with what works well for you.

ah thank you for that, I was just looking at the picture of Megan and love her blusher, so going to make a note of that, I agree with keeping certain things that work for me and will do that.

I'm going to look like a supermodel Hmm haha

You'll look fantastic @2me2u2u2me!

No makeup artist will ever know your face as well as you. Don't get me wrong they are true artists but I really enjoy doing my own makeup. I think if you practice beforehand and figure out the products you really love and how you're going to use them, you'll do just as well as a MUA.

Just another thought as well, I know they get mixed reviews but if you don't already use one, maybe try using a lash serum from now on, if you fancy going for really fluttery lashes but still natural?

I really love all things wedding, thinking about makeup, hair, perfume, all the little details. I'm divorced now 😁 and wouldn't get married again but still love all this stuff.

ohh I've seen the lash serum and thought about trying it, right, that's on my list too now :)

I'm lucky my SiL is a hairdresser so she's there to do my hair. I am going to order some of these recommendations now and start practicing.

I'm with you on loving all the little extras, got a little box going for taking with me with all my favourite smellies in it.
