I’m 37 and have never had a decent for a well fitting bra…

Where can I get one? How should I measure? I’ve done M&S and another high street underwear shop, got measured and bought recommended but they were never right. Ever since I’ve guessed at the size and bought from the supermarket but I’m sick of being uncomfortable and having visible bulges (front and back!)

Was struggling myself since having a baby. M+S sizing recommendation was way out. It was suggested to me on here to try boob or bust measuring guide and it's been amazing. Now have bras that fit! Try measuring with their guide.

Yaty · 03/06/2021 19:04

Oh and from what I can gather most supermarket sizes miss double cups which is why they never fit if you are a larger cup. I've used my Bob size to buy from bravissimo, costs more but I have at least 4 bras that fit now and not going through the faff of returning.

BrilliantBetty · 03/06/2021 20:08

No, me neither OP.

Normandy144 · 03/06/2021 20:13

Bravissimo!

ILoveShula · 03/06/2021 20:16

Go to a proper old fashioned underwear shop if they still exist. I went to one in my early 20s and after the initial shock of the size (smaller bra size, much larger cup), it meant no more ill-fitting bras.

SpeckledyHen · 03/06/2021 20:22

Rigby and Peller . Worth every penny .

ILoveShula · 03/06/2021 20:26

Yes, that's the one. I went to not R&P but the same sort of shop. The lady in the shop looked at me, said I was a SizeLetter(s) and picked up some for me to try. I insisted on a different size but trying the two sizes, it was obvious she was right.

Doublechins · 03/06/2021 20:28

There is a Facebook group called boob or bust that shows the best way to measure for a bra. Absolute game changer for me. I was wearing a bra with a too big back and far far too small cup.

Shorthairlady · 03/06/2021 20:46

I went to M&S and got a bralette. No wires and it's soooooo comfy. Am big boobed as well but have had enough of unwired bras. Going back to buy another 6 at least.

Rigby and Peller are magicians! The lady just looked at the me and gave me a size, bought a selection of bras and they all fit perfectly!

Swearwolf · 03/06/2021 21:02

If you have a bravissimo nearby, go in and try some on. I did boob or bust recently and ordered 3 bras, none of them were right so I thought screw it, went into the nearest big town and went to bravissimo. I was actually right with the sizing but the shapes are all so different, and they all come up different sizes. I tried on about 12 and left with three good ones, all different sizes (but my boob or bust size was the one in the middle, so still pretty good!)

SquirrelFan · 03/06/2021 21:18

Do you have to be well-endowed for Bravissimo? I've often wanted to be properly measured but I am worried they'd laugh my little b cups right out of the shop!

Measure yourself first. You might find you're not a B cup after all
Littleguggi · 03/06/2021 22:29

Defo try BOB and don't be afraid to try a sister size if the size it suggests doesn't quite fit, highly recommended!

Normandy144 · 03/06/2021 22:58

I would give them a go as others have said, you might not actually be a B cup. I would be a C cup in marks and Spencer but in bravissimo I'm an F (I'm no Katie Price believe me!)

PoTheDog · 04/06/2021 06:35

If you have never had a well fitting bra, you probably don't know what one feels or looks like. So I would do a combination of a the recommendations by pp.

Start on the boob.or bust website and learn how to measure and what a good fit looks like (no overspill, band lying flat front and back etc)

Then go to bravissimo and r&p and an independent, get them all to measure you and try on as many bras as possible. You will find that some in your size still won't fit, this may be down to variables in the brand sizing but also your boob shape (ie fuller bottom or top or side). Darker bras tend to fit very slightly smaller due to the effects of darker dyes.

Expect the bra to feel tight around the band initially. 1 because younare probably wearing a too large band right now and 2 because the band will give slightly within a wear or two. But the band does 80% of the boob support and lift so does need to be close fitting. You won't notice after a bit.

Oh and avoid m&s fitting like the plague. It's an outdated measurement technique based on when bras didn't use stretch fabric so you needed to add on inches to compensate.

I used to love Rigby & Peller but I’ve been really disappointed the last couple of times I’ve been fitted there. Very limited style choice if you’re on the larger side and hardly anything in stock in larger sizes

Oly4 · 04/06/2021 07:09

Rigby and Peller, amazing fitting, bras last forever and are worth the £££

MattDamon · 04/06/2021 07:17

Same, OP. I now just wear unwired bralettes or singlets with built-in support. So much more comfortable.

yoshiblue · 04/06/2021 07:25

I've recently bought new bras from bravissimo for the first time....life changing!

I was wearing a 32e and came out with a 30h!

The service was excellent and so many different shapes/styles to try.

MrMeeseekslookatme · 04/06/2021 07:33

Boob or bust.

I genuinely cannot believe people don't know how to measure properly. I'm 41 and I remember my mum teaching me how to do it when I was 10 (yes, I hit puberty early!). There was none of this add five or whatever nonsense it is people do. I genuinely don't understand where that came from?!

KatharinaRosalie · 04/06/2021 07:59

I don't understand how so many bra fitters, who actually have a ton of bras at their disposal keep insisting on the 4-5+ method, while at the same time talking about how a bra in theory should fit. on M&S bra fitting video, she says middle part should be flat against the breastbone etc. And still states that 'You measure 31, so we add 5..'
I measure about 31, no way would a 36 bra fit properly.

I'm 47 and the fitting guides at that time did add inches on. I was probably in my 30s when I got a property fitted bra. M&S had me in a 40C but I now wear a 36GG
