If you are in your 30's, can you tell me where you shop for your clothes please?

Looking for some new ideas!!

I don’t look at clothes as having an age, I look more at individuals having a style.

Where do you normally shop, what do you like your look to be, and are you seeking to change that a bit? If so, in which direction?

moovinon · 02/06/2021 13:49

I normally shop in New Look, Topshop, ASOS.

I know a lot of the products are definitely suitable for my age. Some of my clothes are a bit "young" e.g shorts from a couple of years back that are up my arse, tight fitted dresses, skirts etc.

I have had 2 kids and have gained a dress size after each one. I'm now more of a size 12, and I just don't feel comfortable in short, tight clothing any more and I guess I want to dress a little more "grown up" since having the kids, but I don't really know where to begin. I like the idea of the floaty midi skirts, floaty dresses, but some of the ones I have tried on also make me feel like I'm about 90, so just looking for ideas of where others shop so I can have a look :).

& other stories, cos and Zara.

hamsterchump · 02/06/2021 13:56

Topshop for most things, Jack Wills for plain Merino wool jumpers, surf brands for swimwear, the odd boho thing or bralette from Urban Outfitters although I get absolutely everything via eBay to save money and waste. The bargains you can get are amazing, I've been doing it for years, I usually pay about 10% or less of RRP even for brand new with tags. I always ask the fabric composition before buying because I hate polyester and find everyone's using it more and more lately. I sell on anything I don't like, doesn't fit, etc.

girlsallowed21 · 02/06/2021 13:56

Other Stories, Arket, Zara, ASOS , Nakd

ImInStealthMode · 02/06/2021 14:00

I buy loads from Sugarhill Boutique as they tend to have a more grown up style but with fun prints and bright colours that don't make me feel fusty and old. They're ethical too Smile

My work wardrobe is mostly their midi length shirt dresses and converse.

AnotherEmma · 02/06/2021 14:01

I'm in my mid-30s. I haven't shopped in New Look or Topshop for years and years. I guess it depends on your body shape and style! But those clothes haven't suited or appealed to me for a long time.

My favourite recent purchases are from Hush. I get some basics from Gap. Otherwise, a bit stuck - so I'm following with interest!

Lan2020 · 02/06/2021 15:29

I'm 33. I used to shop at ASOS, oasis and Warehouse (before the boohoo quality disaster).

I'm a bit like you and have struggled.to know where to shop. Some.places seem too young, others too old. I currently love Other Stories and Sezane. I wouldn't shop at New Look again and find places like Zara and Mango have very huge oversized items ot everything is cropped!

pizzaobsessed · 02/06/2021 15:35

Next, Wallis, Oasis & New Look

MsSquiz · 02/06/2021 15:38

Next (jeans, t shirts & sweaters), New Look, H&M, Hush (t shirts), Silk Fred (dresses), love leggings (leggings)

I have recently been browsing on Wolf and Badger which sell all sorts for a range of budgets, but I've yet to put an order in

moovinon · 02/06/2021 17:05

Great, thanks everyone!

I hadn't even heard of some of those shops, so no wonder I've been struggling 😂.

I will have a look through them tonight.

Thanks!

ASOS, but only for jeans really. Just bought a nice dress from Nobody's Child but it's not here yet so not sure what it's going to be like. I also buy a lot of my clothes second hand from Vinted and Depop!

kowari · 02/06/2021 17:19

Seasalt, fatface, superdry, hollister, h&m, many secondhand though

MyBabyBoyBlue · 02/06/2021 18:09

Anthropologie, Zara, the odd thing from French Connection (mostly jumpers and tops), Oasis sometimes.

allofthecheese · 02/06/2021 18:45

ASOS has let me down too many times. It's a good thing their returns are easy. Mango and Zara.. COS too but perhaps a little shapeless.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 02/06/2021 18:48

I'm 33 and my wardrobe throughout my 20s basically used to to consist of Topshop, Asos, Warehouse, Oasis, with a couple of bits from H&M, occasionally Gap, River Island, Mango, Zara.

I won't buy Warehouse/Oasis now that Boohoo own them and Topshop on ASOS was crap last time I looked. I've bought a few bits from Monsoon and Mango recently, I've even ordered a couple of bits from M&S.

Watchingthetelly · 02/06/2021 19:20

Zara, H&M, Reiss and Cos mainly. Buuuuut I’ve started getting jeans from M&S and feel like I’ve discovered a secret trove of perfect straight leg jeans for women with chunky arses.

Flambola · 02/06/2021 19:32

H&M. That’s it!

ballroompink · 02/06/2021 20:05

Toast
Boden (plain items only - in the last couple of years have had shorts, trousers and bikinis)
Whistles
Jigsaw
Sezane
A few select bits from Hush, H&M, Zara, Seasalt
Son de Flor
& Other Stories

I also like Cos and Massimo Dutti but live nowhere near their stores

I get lots of things second hand - have had some fab vintage Laura Ashley stuff from eBay

BananaHammock23 · 02/06/2021 20:06

Cos, Arket, & Other Stories, Whistles and ASOS for basics

ChrisQuean · 02/06/2021 20:31

I some high street stuff from Jigsaw and Mint Velvet, but I’m not that into British clothes (lived abroad for a while). I don’t like anything body-con or super-girly, so although I’m Size 8 and can wear most clothes, I like a more practical feminine, slightly Tomboy-ish look.

On line, a few bits from Baukjen. Absolute basics from M&S (love their Ivy jeans at the moment).

Mainly, I prefer independent brands and boutique clothes and Scandi or European brands. Munthe, Ganni and Sessun for Scandi and Jil Sander or Hugo Boss for smart work clothes or pared down occasion wear (not that I go anywhere at the moment!).

I love trainers and boots from Philip Hog. Jumpers1234 for funky knitwear. Penelope Childers and Repetto for non-heel shoes. Rixo for dresses. Zadig & Voltaire for a punky feel. Parka London, Rains or Isle Jacobsen for winter and rain coats.

BanningTheWordNaice · 02/06/2021 20:37

I used to wear Karen Millen for work and Oasis at the weekends so I’m as stuck as you! At the moment I’ve found a few things I like from french connection, a dress from all saints and Abercrombie has a surprising amount of normal/pretty dresses at the moment.

mylovelyhorsechestnut · 02/06/2021 21:01

Used to buy most of my clothes from Oasis (pre Boohoo). I now shop at Mint Velvet, Reiss, Whistles, and sometimes Hush

nordica · 02/06/2021 21:05

Lots of places! I know what I like and don't follow trends but buy from a range of places including M&S, Seasalt, Uniqlo, Lucy & Yak, Run & Fly, People Tree, White Stuff, Gudrun Sjoden, Asos, and lots of independent shops too that stock small brands.

Salanda · 02/06/2021 21:36

I’m 34 and in the past few years have moved to better quality clothes, my favourite stores are:

Sézane - great for knitwear, blouses, dresses

Rouje - for dressier options and summery styles

Bellerose - a new find, only got a jacket from there so far

The Kooples - only got a couple of bits

Realisation Par - dresses for parties, weddings etc

J Brand, Frame, Citizens of Humanity for jeans (often via The Outnet)

Vestaire Collective, Depop, Ebay for second hand designer items

&Daughter, Knotty Ones, Oubas, Genevieve Sweeney - knitwear

Maje, Sandro, Kitri, Stand, Shrimps are also places I browse but haven’t got much from.

I like Liberty, Selfridges, Net-a-Porter, Outnet to browse and they often have lots of different brands - a good way to explore what brands might fit your style.

You don’t mention budget, I don’t mind spending on quality but I also keep an eye out for sales - recently got a couple of pairs of jeans from Liberty for £70 ish each - reduced from £250 or so. A lot of the others places I’ve mentioned have good sales twice a year.
