Recommendations for daughters knotted, tangled hair

My daughter has long, fine hair that gets knotted and tangled very easily. I haven’t found a good shampoo and conditioner that helps so would love some recommendations please.

I have tried lots on my daughters hair and found L'Oréal Professionnel | Serie Expert | Liss Unlimited Hair Mask | For Frizz Prone Hair to be the best.
It’s rather expensive but the 500ml tub lasts us about 6 months. It makes her hair super silky. I buy it off Amazon but it’s available in lots of other places.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/05/2021 14:33

My dd has the same, her hair is really fine so knots very easily.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/05/2021 14:34

I will try the mask suggested by Pinkpiglet

NavigatingAdolescence · 31/05/2021 14:37

Nestle boycotter here, so no L’Oreal for us.

Has taken years to find the solution but it’s Noughty Pure Care shampoo and conditioner then “it’s a 10” spray from the hairdressers and blow drying with the nozzle pointing downwards. I do DD’s hair (down to her bum) twice a week, plait for sleep and it’s glorious on the inbetween days.

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 31/05/2021 14:38

One tip is to tie her hair up before bed in a loose braid or pineapple bun that can help prevent it getting tangled in the night.

Jedstre · 31/05/2021 19:57

Thanks for the suggestions. Would welcome any more.

Wet and dry hair brush, soon gets through the tangles without pulling/hurting.

MarchionessDeCamden · 31/05/2021 20:04

I have resorted to blow drying straight which makes a huge difference but I do worry about the heat on her hair

cancancan · 31/05/2021 20:07

Our DDs is the same but yeah bought a wet dry brush and it's a game changer.
Also DDs hair only gets really bad if it needs a trim! So keeping up with regular trims really helps.

Tangle tamer brush from boots

The Johnson and Johnson baby detangling spray in a green/teal bottle is the only thing that worked for my sister as a toddler and me now as an adult!

KingdomScrolls · 31/05/2021 20:12

Tangle teezer wet brush, brush when the conditioner is on, plait for bed, silk pillowcase. I have long curly hair and these are the tricks that work for me, I remember crying as a child when my mum was trying to stay a brush through my hair. DS has long ish (shoulder length but longer when wet) curly hair and I do the same with him other than the tie it up at his isn't long enough. I use the child's farm shampoo and conditioner on him not the two in one and their tangle spray if we've not got time to wash, I just wet it, spray that in and use the wet brush. I also use coconut oil on our hair, but not sure how that works on fine hair, we all have thick curly hair.

That is exactly what I was going to say - I find it brilliant for my long hair for getting tangles out, using either a comb or brush with wide plastic teeth. And it's not at all expensive, so it's worth a try.
It's this one:

I was also going to suggest this! My daughter has a similar hair type!

Avon kids detangler and comb works a treat for my DD

NavigatingAdolescence · 31/05/2021 21:17

Most detangling sprays have silicone in them - the J+J one certainly does. I don’t want that building up on DD’s hair.

I dry my DD’s on the lowest setting. It’s a high powered dryer so it doesn’t need the heat
Lnix · 31/05/2021 21:22

Buy a 'Wet Brush' - it's brilliant in my daughter's curly hair. We also use the Garnier Ultimate Blends Argan Richness hair mask once a week and it's great. X

Is your dd’s hair fine ? I will try this if so.

Bloom and Blossom Detangling spray (all their products seem to have a Roald Dahl theme, this product is Matilda!) is brilliant and smells gorgeous. I even have a little spray on my own hair from
time to time Grin

Yes, but there’s a lot of it!

buckeejit · 31/05/2021 23:15

Tangle teasers & wet brush are vg but the best I've tried is a similar design to wet brush & £2.49 from savers. It's ace!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 01/06/2021 08:44

My younger daughter has this hair, long and fine (a fair bit of it) but tangles in seconds. We do an olaplex 3 treatment once a fortnight but leave it on for 24 hours (wet hair Friday night and wash it out Saturday night - hair tied up all day Saturday so doesn’t look too bad). Also on a recommendation on here we got a £5 Brazilian keratin natural world treatment off Amazon (it’s the first search result and is on offer for 3.74 atm). We run this through wet hair before blow drying straight and it has made a massive difference. I use any random heat protector spray (generally Sebastian one that you shake as I use that) and whilst not perfect her hair is so much better. We also limit washing to once a week (she’s under 10 and it only looks grim one day so we tie it up).

Any chance you could attach a photo @buckeejit please? We have a tangle teaser and never found it any good. The one you’ve got is worth a try at £2.49!

Try body shop grape seed serum. It's only £6, you only need a bit as it's very oily and you can use it before blow drying or after to help comb through.
