Please help. I'm in my 60s, overweight partly from lockdown but I'm trying hard to lose some of it. I've dreadful legs and would be very embarrassed to wear a swimsuit. I loved swimming in my youthful days and see it as a way of Shedding weight.
Has anybody got any ideas on possible flattering outfits I could wear without attracting unwanted attention?
Thanks in advance. Desperate! 😱

Do you know what? I always feel for the vast majority of us, swimsuits are never going to make us look great, so I think just pick something that looks nice on you from the waist up and forget about the lower half! For me, I have zero cleavage so I go for this sort of style

But if I had boobs I might go for a more sweetheart neckline. Boden have a few lovely options in different styles actually.

But yes, for me it’s focus on a nice top half and just own the fact that everyone else has their wobbly legs out too plus most of the time they’ll be submerged anyway!!

I have a pair of surf shorts that were about 1/3 of my thigh, so covered the top of thigh/bottom of bottom area that all/some (respectively) swimsuits don't cover. They would definitely work if that made you more comfortable. I used to wear bikini bottoms underneath in case of catastrophic failure, but a swimming costume would work too.

Now, I have given up on the shorts and wear a swimming costume and stopped worrying what I look like - within reason. I still buy something that looks as nice as I can muster. I have some sports costumes for proper swims which are surprisingly flattering, and then and m and s job for if I want to lounge around the pool.

I know its easy to say just go swimming, no one is looking at you in the pool - which is utterly true. And tbh, anything that would cover your legs further than above the knee would attract more looks than it would prevent, though I wear swim leggings and a long sleeved rash vest in outdoor pools (from Decathlon) as I'm sun sensitive. Indoors I normally wear a legsuit like this which would give you a little more coverage and many ladies wear

Boden tankinis and bottoms are rally flattering even if you’re big

We all have legs, most of us have cellulite, many of us have scars, birthmarks and/or other marks and blemishes. Most other pool users simply don’t notice or couldn’t give a *. Should you care about the opinion of anyone judging legs that have carried you through 6 decades?

I have just started swimming again regularly and wear a plain black comfy swimsuit, I look pretty awful in it but it is a great fit for exercising. Tbh everyone who was in the pool with me the other day was there for the exercise and a little chat so go for it 💪

Land's End do a nice range of swim shorts / swim skirts / tankinis / rash vests / cover-ups.

Slazenger do a boyleg one that's cheap and very wearable. Or try a company called Modli which does separates with short sleeves and vests/shorts

Thank you for all the advice. I'll look into these. I never imagined my body would end up looking as it does, I had chemotherapy a few years ago and have ended up with Lymphedema, I'm hoping exercise may help with this.
