Having lowlights put in my hair on Wednesday for the first time. Could really do with some advice as to what colour I should go for.

Have never ever coloured my hair in the past, so am a bit nervous, but am noticing quite a few grey hairs, so thought it was time I did something.

Have booked myself an appointment for Wednesday pm to have some lowlights put in my hair, but have no idea what colours I should ask for.

My hair is very dark, and I don't know what colours will look best. I am actually quite worried about going for the wrong colours, and my hair looking hideous!

Would be grateful of any advice!

What colour is your skin? I like coppery lowlights, they can look lovely with dark hair.

Pinkchampagne · 18/11/2007 18:39

I am quite dark skinned too.

I still think copper, or poss a sort of burgundy. The hairdresser should know what will go with your skin tone though. Good luck!

Thanks. I will talk to the hairdresser & see what she advises. Am stupidly nervous!

Thank you both for the suggestions & for the reassurance!
Will probably go with the copper & just hope I don't come out resembling a tiger!
Will report back tomorrow.

your hair is lovely, i'm always jealous of naturally dark haired people. i'd go more burgundy but guessing . ask the hairdresser.

MamaG · 20/11/2007 08:34

think we should have a pic of you with your new hair!

SEA - me too, I tried to dye mine dark brown once, I looked like a corpse

Heifer · 20/11/2007 09:15

I had mine done about 2 months ago - was so worried about looking silly that I asked the hairdresser to do make it look really natural, so she played safe and just used my natural tones (I am moussy brown these days, with natural grey tones)..

anyway

I was really chuffed after as it looked very natural, in fact so bloody natural that NOT ONE PERSON noticied I had had it done....

Waste of £75!!!!

Due to get it redone next week, so am going to be more daring and have another colour added!!!!

Good luck and hope you like the results, for me it was important that I didn't look like a bird has crapped in my hair so my hairdresser did long strips of colour (well I think she did, as I say I can't really see it)....

LaCerbiatta · 20/11/2007 11:17

Sorry to disagree with everyone, but if your hair is really dark I think copper is a mistake. The orangey will clash with your 'coolness' (as in opposed to 'warmness'), iyswim. Maybe use a red or burgundy colour...

If you say dark but it's just a natural brown, as opposed to nearly black, then copper is nice.

Pinkchampagne · 20/11/2007 17:18

Thank you all. My hair is very dark, so maybe copper would be a mistake. I am liking the idea of it looking as natural as possible, as I have never used any other colours in my hair, and I'm a bit worried about the end result.

Am cautious of posting a pic of myself on here incase my mother is lurking & finds me again!

Had it done. Went for copper shades in the end, after talking to hairdresser, and the end result is so subtle that I doubt many people will notice!

Aw! I bet they do. Why don't you post a pic?

Sheherazadethegoat · 22/11/2007 10:40

i have v. dark hair going v. grey. last year i had some blond highlights which i loved. it was just a few along the parting so not like i went all bottle blond. am dark again now but if you really want a change i recommend blond.

LaCerbiatta · 22/11/2007 11:20

Hmmm, it's always the problem isn't it? You worry so much about a dramatic change that in the end in hardly noticeable.... I've done it too! But I'm sure people will notice something, specially outside or in a strong light.

Sheherazade: do you have pale skin? I've thought about starting to go lighter but I'm too olive and I think I'll just look silly... It would be soooo much easier hiding the greys though
