Jojoba oil is amazing

Why did I not discover this years ago!?

My skin has always been on the verge of a hissy fit. Some products it rejects outright and some it tolerates for a short while before deciding that "skin says no".

It has driven me mad over the years and had become very sensitive this spring. Everything I did, from wearing a mask to work, to being slightly warm, to having a glass of wine to sleeping with my face touching my pillow was making my cheeks and the skin down towards my jawline irritated. Think red and sore and bumpy and depressing. I had had to stop using any products so it wasn't that something like that was causing the irritation. It was just being in the world!

Anyway, I got a notion to try an oil to see if that might help the situation. So I bought 100ml of cold pressed jojoba oil.

I've been using it as a cleanser - apply a layer, then warm face cloth to remove - and then I damp my skin slightly with tapwater and rub a few drops of the oil in as a moisturiser. I've been doing this for about 6 weeks now.

The difference is amazing. My skin is comfortable for the first time in ages. It looks so much better. All the irritation has disappeared and I feel much more confident and comfortable. I could see a change within 48 hours.

I just wish I'd known ages ago! So I wanted to let anyone else with annoying skin know that it could be a great option for them. It's cheap (I got 100ml for €8) and it won't get discontinued Grin

Hope it helps somebody else. It is the best thing ever as far as I'm concerned.

Rosacea?

Will give jojoba oil a try, thanks, glad you found something that works!

BumbleFlump · 29/05/2021 22:37

I used to use it in my hair, must try it again soon!

BlackAlys · 29/05/2021 22:55

@BumbleFlump how did you use it ?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/05/2021 23:05

Someone else recommended the same on here a few year ago so I thought I would give it a try. It was great for about a week, then it made my forehead come out in loads of tiny lumps. Took me ages to get rid of them! So didn't work for me.

I used to use jojoba oil on may hair and it made a massive difference to the condition. Heat a couple of tablespoons in an oil burner till warm, with a couple of drops of essential oil such as jasmine or neroli and paint it on your hair and leave for an hour, wash out.

MajorMakeover · 30/05/2021 09:55

OP, also maybe your skin just likes oil. Mine loves any kind of oil. Try the CLarins Blue Orchid oil or one of the others if they are more suitable for your skin.

I've been using it a few years and recommended it on here a few times. My rosacea is gone! Jojoba works better than any prescription creams.

I wash with dove unscented bar too, that also made a big difference.

I use a little aveeno moisturising cream on top of the jojoba. My skin has never looked so good and glowy!

CinnamonJellyBeans · 30/05/2021 10:51

I'm pretty sure that Jojoba can be comdogenic (i.e. brings you out in spots) so if you're worried about this, rosehip, argan or squalane are also good to use as moisturisers.

You can buy oils and add essential oils like frankincense, rose, orange, lavender to make your own moisturiser very cheaply from online suppliers of the raw ingredients.

If you look at the ingredients list of the most expensive oils, you can purchase most of these and blend them yourself at a fraction of the price. If you got really carried away, you could buy the apothecary style bottles and gift them.

Jojoba is very similar in structure to our skin’s natural sebum, that’s why it’s so good for dry skin- it’s very easily absorbed. Fun fact, it’s technically a wax rather than an oil. Couldn’t explain why that is.

withlotsoflove · 30/05/2021 18:55

Jojoba isn’t bad for the skin at all @CinnamonJellyBeans Smile
It exceptionally good for it and is closest to our own skins make up.
It’s a brilliant cleanser / and moisturiser.
It’s actually the best oil to use on our faces.

Took to long to post 😂 yes/ exactly @Boood

It does not work better than any prescription creams 😂😂

It sounds like rosacea, I had that really badly and cured it using a similar routine but with black seed oil. I now always use oil as a moisturiser (black seed, mustard almond, coconut or olive) and gave lovely skin now. Might give the jojoba a try (does anyone else hear Billy Conolly when they say that word?!)

You have to say it like Billy Connolly, it's just the way it is Grin
tunainatin · 30/05/2021 19:13

I just tried to find it on YouTube but think it's too specific!

Cyberpixie · 30/05/2021 19:28

@stevalnamechanger it did for me. Prescription creams such as finacea did nothing. I've been free of it for 3yrs now using jojoba oil.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 30/05/2021 19:49

@withlotsoflove

It's definitely more comedogenic than the ones I would recommend over it: (argan, rosehip, squalane)

yourtoxicfreemomma.com/blogs/clean-body-skin-care/comedogenic-rating-of-the-oils-in-your-skin-care

However, all these oils are cheap easy to purchase, so there's no harm in trialling them. Jojoba clearly works brilliantly for some people

Suasthuasanuas · 31/05/2021 12:48

@Cyberpixie delighted to hear it worked so well for you too. Smile

@MajorMakeover I did try the Elizabeth Arden ceramide oil a while back and while it was fine for a little while it ended up causing sensitivity.

I'm operating on the basis that less is more currently, and I don't need to worry about other ingredients that might set my skin off.

I read conflicting information online about it being comodogenic, but it hasn't caused any issues on that end. In fact it has minimised my pores beautifully. Go gghhhogghhoba oil Grin

It’s great for nail cuticles too!
