Fake tan

Has anyone here had a spray tan? (done professionally).

So, I'm naturally very pale and hate it! In the summer over recent years I ran really well and always feel I look so much healthier. However, I know sun damage is the worst thing for your skin. As I've got older (33) I'm now aware I should be keeping away from the sun.

So, considering other tanning options. However, the only time I tried fake tan was aged 14 and it was a streaky mess. I've never had a spray tan or have any idea about the process.

If done professionally, does it look natural or streaky? Does it rub off on your clothes? How long does it last? Am I better off avoiding it all together?

Thank you!

It depends on how much you shower, exfoliate, sweat etc. but in general a spray tan will start to look patchy, in my experience, after about three days.

Spray tans are great, but they don't last long. They're good if you're going to a wedding, but not a week away in the uk.

Gradual tan is your friend

Thank you both. Hmm.im.slighly put off by the fact it.doesnt last long, I may look orange and it'll probably.ruin my clothes!

Are the gradual tanner's the moisturisers? I've never used them before, do they give a nice colour? Any recommendations?

I'm very pale ( lightest foundation shade always).
I once had a St Tropez Spray at a salon.
Never again.
I was tangerine and the finish was dreadful ( between fingers/hairline).
Had i been naturally darker it may not have been so obvious but honestly it was embarrassing walking around like I did while it faded.
I actually preferred the dirty, faded look of the week old tan than the fresh glowing beacon look which attracted smirks at the supermarket.

I've just got some of Lucy Bees new fake tan to try. I've got a wedding in July and don't want to be pale. I'm going to exfoliate and moisturise fir a few days and then try it out at the weekend. It's the one in the pink bottle with the mit

I concur with PPs re spray tan looking orange / going patchy.

I'm also very pale and recently stated using the new Dove gradual tan moisturiser.

It gives a nice, subtle colour and isn't streaky.

I use garnier gradual tan (there are two strengths) DD is pale and the she managed a natural looking tan with the Garnier gradual tan moisturiser last summer. It's so gradual it doesn't go streaky (DD would have been slapdash when applying it) but you do need to do it at least once a day.

Stupid question but here goes. With the tanning moisturisers (I have a dove one sat looking at me right now), when do you apply? I don't want to do before lying in bed and in the morning I then would be putting clothes on (and let's face it, even tights right now) so wouldn't it rub off?

I had a spray tan many years ago. I was assured the salon were using the lightest shade, but i have my doubts. I didn’t look orange, but the tan was very dark. It was too much of a jump for me- I’m so pale that I struggle to find foundation pale enough. When it wore off a bit, it looked better. I think it might have been a bit patchy in places, but I put that down to me not exfoliating properly first.

MadeForThis · 26/05/2021 07:15

I apply it after a shower. As long as you wait for your shin to dry properly and not feel tacky then you can put clothes on.

Before bed and with loose pyjamas would be best.

Thank you @MadeForThis

I bath / shower early evening (2 hours before bed) and then apply.

Gently exfoliate and reapply every other day.
